When i see aLalafellcharacter wearing a cute glam
poop emoji

About 50% of the mentors I encounter make me want to have an extra pair of hands so I can do a quadruple facepalm. And like I've said many times in this forum, where are these so called mentors that join because the want to feel superior and then do a poor job of mentoring? This is an urban legend with no evidence whatsoever. Problematic mentors in content look like such a tiny minority in this game, but people get so hyped up over the few bad encounters they have.
Implementing all of these changes wouldn't make much of a difference, people would still come here to complain about the <1% of mentors that grind their gears, just as they do the current 1%.
They don't care to help newbies and overall act like they know everything without actually sharing the knowledge.
And then those same mentors fail at mechanics. Seen some sprouts that knew more of the fight than mentors.
Mentor icon for me is like a huge red flag. I'd love to see it changed so we'd have less people wanting to show off and more people that want to help.

People will farm endlessly for a giant couch, a huge glowing sabotender, or for weapons with just a tiny stat increase. Back during diadems debut expansion this was the thing to do.
It doesn't matter if the symbol is a literal pile of poop. If it is special, then people will farm for it, and they will revel in feeling better than someone without it.

bump, made a very similar post months ago where I recommended a tree icon to symbolise the progression from a sapling to a fully grown tree, but I'd take the watering can idea any day over the god forsaken crown.
A change like this wouldn't fix the mentor system as a whole but it would help weed out scum, so its a step in the right direction. We'd need more substantial changes, possibly more moderation from responsible people, like GM's or GM approved mentors, I've seen people get kicked for absurd reasons, but at the same time that could just lead to overbearing rules and more absurd kicks, idk i'm rambling at this point.
1% is the number of good and useful mentors not the number of bad ones. And like I've said many times in this forum, where are these so called mentors that join because the want to feel superior and then do a poor job of mentoring? It’s better a watering can because mentor is there to help sprouts.

And exactly how do you know? Have you been keeping track of all mentors you've been encountering in content? For how long? It's very likely that you just don't notice mentors that aren't bad.
I've posted this before but I'll do so again. I've been tracking this for a while now on the Aether DC. As of today :
1.17% of mentors have bad behavior. This includes: dropping from ex roulettes (yes it includes HELPFUL mentors that do this). It also includes mentors that help but lose patience with sprouts, and obviously also includes toxic mentors (outright toxic ones are < 0.14%).
Next to that, 18.80% of mentor encounters have been helpful. Giving people advice on mechanics and job rotations.
80.03% of mentors are just silent. Saying Hi and GG/Thanks. Makes sense, not every piece of content requires someone's help.
When it comes to skill, things are a little subjective but I feel I've done a decent job of categorizing the mentors I've encountered.
7.64% so far have had bellow average skills. Low damage, eat aoes, die to their own mistakes, etc. This could be for many reasons, they could be learning a new class, distracted, or just bad.
34.95% had average levels of skill.
53.74% have had "above average" skill levels. Above average is a bit of a misleading title, I usually put players who are in the top 30% of the player base here.
The rest were encountered in content where it was hard to tell and have been marked as unknown.
If you guys want to claim that mentors are bad. Show me your numbers. Survivor bias is a thing, and nobody is immune to it.

who the heck become mentor because of the icon? most of them because of they can chat in NN, and alot of mentor just turn off the icon right after they get them

I think the biggest issue with player mentors is that they aren't vetted at all. Literally anyone can become one.
It would be good if becoming a player mentor wasn't a simple process and that if you abuse it you lose it.
