I'd rather not. I'd rather have multiple LS for multiple purpouses. Also, in my experience, tight-knit LS' in FFXI always tended to lead to drama. I have no idea how this is in FFXIV, but the LS' that had "played together and enjoyed each other for a long time" kind of social LS', were vaporized by a ¤%&#storm of tears, anger, wristing and a general decay of gaming experience. If Gath's a vet of FFXI, Gath really should know the insane amount of QQ that could happen when a rivalring LS stole your Sandworm, people blaming each other for doing it wrong, or doing it slow, eventually leading to some people getting sour, general cursing and farting in someone's general direction, flaunting epeen, then ragequit and split the LS by making a new pearl and start ninja-recruiting through propaganda wars, like: "that LS-leader is a prick, and he stole my lolipop bc he was evil, and a NOOB at that!". I personally loved it, but still. I like 'em tears. Not everyone else does.

I want PvP to be the main rivalry and cause of drama between LS, not camping a mob with a once per day spawn or something. The HNM's could be the icing of the cake. (just spinning further on that HNM example Gath made, not saying it's the only thing Gath meant by posting this thread)

Ryodi was going to read this thread but noticed Gath's double negative on internet epeen and said fuck it.

Gath is not talking about PvP because PvP has not much relevance to the progression as a server.

Gath's LS was one of the top.

Gath never had problems with people complaining or whining if an HNM was claimed over us.

Gath's shell would just move on to the next one.

Perhaps Siren was just an example of server excellence.

I hope that the aftermath of the first post is that gath is leaving the game or at least stop writing in the forums because "damn" his posts hurt the eyes and the intelligence of normal humans who went to school.

Maybe Gath had luck socially, and I didn't. Maybe Siren had better peoples and beasts than Unicorn. Doesn't mean the problems was still there. I've not seen the decay of LS in this game the way you've done, although havent played for That long yet so who knows, it may be so? But I've seen LS' die in this game more out of the game's bad player retention than from lack of competition in PvE and eco. All I'm saying is that if those problems would appear that I earlier described, I want to have other LS' for other activites to fall back on until stuff calms down and/or find a new one for that activity.

Despite the wall of text and the usual 3rd person view this is by far the best post by Gath to date

One of the biggest things that showed who was the household names for shells on the servers were HNMs. I know a lot of people are against long spawn HNMs with low drop rates for the items, but it did create a large proportion of competition that keeps shells together for the most part. Shells did not last forever in the HNM world of XI, but, they did last a long times. Ranging from 8 months to 8 years. The competition kept shells and the friends they called themselves within together with a like goal. At first people do it for the items but it eventually grew into a bond that people cherished and eventually that greed would dissipate with the exception of a few really greedy people.
I think its a shame many ppl are going to assume you are doing your normal troll styled look at me annoyance post and gloss over that OP as there is a real TON of good points made and I never thought that the competition is what helped keep many great long term shells together.

There have been a hundred posts on this topic but you really laid out the basics for a long lasting strong "end-game" shell. And despite SE's desire to cater to the casual with rested XP, leve's, easymode content and events there needs to be some form of competition or this will just be another "insert generic MMO here" that dies by the end of the year post 2.0

Actually the idea of PVP and open world spawn HNM sounds really fun, you could need 2 parties. 1 to hold off the MPK/PVP activity and another to fight the monster, sounds entertaining to me.

I agree that competition is required, but not under the form of HNM camping. There was no competition there whatsoever other than spamming a button for 30 sec every 30 min, as someone already pointed out and it was BORING as hell.

Create competition through PvP; PetvsPet; Dynamis Style areas where you can trully excel as a LS. If you brind back HNM style camps then whoever bots first gets the NM, which is stupid.
