Any other FFXI junkies that would love to see the return of long hour pop HNMs? i think it would be an awesome asset to the Version 2.0 and give the game a bit more difficulty and more "LOOK AT THE AWESOME GEAR I HAVE" feel to it.

I like the idea of rarity and pride, and yet I don't like the fierce competition and drama that long-spawn HNMs caused...
If only there was a way to get the best of both worlds.
i hated the long hr timed spawned NM's but there were awesome at the same time, i hated trying to get the time from other people who might have ogttan last kill , in this game it will be a lot harder to get time because no1 but prob ur own ls talks to u as well most people in the game r rude and coming from the game of wow, which makies it really hard for people to even get the time.
If people start talking to each other more and helping each other out more then this i w ould to see in the game but not till then

I'm afraid I'll have to vote against anything that encourages camping. In theory it's a nice idea, in practice it turns into incredible drama. Though there are nice people that would want to help you, and take turns on NM or whatever, there's more of those who aren't as nice. . . to put it so lightly. Already witnessed some of the nasty behaviour on the roaming NMs that we already have, even though their respawn time is much shorter than 24h![]()
I don't recall anything fun about it.
All I remember is immature trash talking between windows and the aggravation of seeing something pop claimed.
Here's the real "challenge" in XI: get claim > wait for mob to die during unchallenging battle > pray the random number generator is in your favor and drops more than crystals > hope you have more points than the other guy > get item.
This is why I'm such a supporter of instanced content. Could you imagine how ludicrous things would be if Ifrit was an open world NM?
Granted, SE has yet to take full advantage of the medium. Instances should be places that reward exploration. Not sprinting past everything like Darkhold.
It was always a good option if your linkshell wanted to do HNM's they could. With them not being in the game at all something would be missing for some of us anywyas. Personally I would like to see HNM's.
Can't say I liked this back in Everquest.
Excessive long spawn times (as depressing as a weekly spawn).
Only a chance for any item to drop or a component of the item in question.
And the drama associated with master loot/ninja loot where:
"I have an alt who can use this."
"I'm the guild leader, master loot, real-life friends first."
"Ninja loot super rare drop, leaves guild, blocks people."
I think heavy duty time investment should have something to show for it.
this is one of those time= challenge arguments.. id rather see an nm that was there all the time and was just hard as f%$k to beat. maybe one with different target areas like tails that do damage that you have to destroy. challenge =challenge not time=challenge.
The Sh Nm's are a decent challenge but only take a few mins to beat. Id like to see some NM's that are like 30-60 min long fights.
No thanks.

I don't think I'd mind open world HNMs so much if they too an FFXII aproach to it.
Give Grand Companies a "bounty" system. Once a player is of a certain rank they can accept bounties for notorious monsters seen roaming Eorzea. Once they participate in slaying the monster they get bounty credits. Once someone has amassed enough credits they can commission the company's master artisans to craft a weapon or armor based off recently-discovered recipes contained deep in an ancient ruin (or said adventurer is sent to said ruins to see if said recipe exists).
I just think the XI HNM system was severely flawed. I liken it to winning a radio contest.
In a radio contest you have to be the 100th caller to win a chance to have your name drawn to win a chance to answer a series of questions to win a chance to pick one key out of 100 to win a one-year lease on a crappy car. XI HNMs just feel like the same scam.
I think something like a bounty system would be much better. A player can see their progress as opposed to keeping your fingers crossed every kill just to have your item drop the one time you're not there. It makes acquisition a personal endeavor but still requires team work. No ninja looting as the credits would work like company seals.
My only issue would be no 24-72 hour NQ/HQ spawn bull. 5-10 hours is enough of a stretch to make them rare. They should be notorious through ferocity, not frequency.
