I think Square Enix's next MMO should be set back in Ivalice.

Its already a very established, and gigantic world from the various titles that was created for it.

Even Vagrant Story though I think it wasn't intended at first.

I really want to see the full vision of what Ivalice was supposed to be like besides the few continents we only got to see in that world, and the many the stories it holds.

Hopefully a future director will step up for the challenge to give Ivalice the full picture one day.

Ehhh, if we get another MMO I have a feeling it'll be another amalgamation. The Final Fantasy series has never been one to 'linger' in one world for more than a handful of games. They'll make homages like how they alluded to Hydaelyn having it's own Ivalice analogue/potentially being in the same world depending on how you squint and tilt your head. However that's really about it.

I assumed one of the reasons it was cancelled because of artistic differences; seem like it leaned too much on a western-animation style.

If we go by how the numbers have been so far...that would probably be FFXVII. I for one welcome such an idea, as all the races are already created, a bunch of the locales have already been made, and most you'd really need to delve into is story and that sort of thing.

The Tactics/XII world is easily one of the best in FF history. As much as I'd like the next FF mmo to be set in Ivalice there's a few things preventing it; it's a Matsuno creation; it wouldn't feel right without him directing it. Would Yoshida step aside? Would he co-direct it with Yoshida?

I really support this though if they can make it happen, I know Matsuno plays XIV a good deal.

+1 for this. I always felt like Ivalice was one of the most stable, believable 'worlds' that Square ever created (I know it's technically in Eorzea, but it really doesn't feel like it at all). The War of the Lions was so substantial that you could either set the game during it, or just preceding it during Fifty Years War (which might be the better choice).

But, yeah - I'm all in. Especially if the PvP component is slightly more emphasized to reflect the conflicted nature of the setting.

I love Ivalice - it hits all the right notes for me in terms of world building and it handles political intrigue exceptionally well. It helps that it also has one of the best depictions of the 'Empire' trope to show up in a JRPG. I'm hoping XIV takes more cues from XII when it comes to Garlemald.

I don't dislike XIV, though it could do with higher stakes. Too many plot points end up amounting to very little consequence and are conveniently wrapped up in a neat little bow that favours the protagonists.
