my issue is that not only is the skill floor lowered, getting TO that floor (level 80) is soulcrushingly boring with how slow a drip abilities are (on top of class problems like "only has 2 buttons to press for it's entire career").
rant, feel free to skip the rest of this post: to be real, i for one am okay with the 5.0 reworks of everyone's kits--in theory. get everyone's kits equalized so everyone can participate in all content with at least a minimum degree of effectiveness (to help alleviate class-elitism or "mandatory" situations like old coil requiring a bard or SMN for the medusa boss, though that hasnt been an issue for more than 4 years at this point, so im not sure it's the threat the devs keep making it out to be), fine, cool beans! they can add stuff to get everyone's class lore/identity/interesting playstyle tools working ON TOP of the new universal kits going forward. I could file this expansion away as futureproofing and bear with how garbage some stuff is right now if it meant that things can only improve in the future.
except we've gotten a shocking amount of silence on many important topics for basic quality of life (healer downtime, tank options disparity (WAR and DRK being near-identical now, living dead being hilariously bad both on the defensive and healer front with ever-scaling HP and static heal potencies), horrible leveling process, STILL broken class quests and lore from the 5.0 rework (AST and MCH in particular), and on and on).
and they're kept to a soft limit on the number of buttons available to the player due to controller support, and all of those are filled with the new universal kit.
and they're already staring down the barrel of another expansion (about 4 patches/1 year, which means another 10 levels, and another 10 levels of skills and buttons to fit in) which means unless they find a way to compress what we've currently got, we're gonna see another complete rework/gutting of every class to spread their kits evenly over this new larger surface area (see: TERRIBLE leveling experience for newcomers and new classes).
there's a lot of basic core design problems that will only make things exponentially worse as time goes on unless they're addressed, and we've got nothing so far.
