Mentors went to greater extend than I see other random players doing (check my edit in that post you quoted). They also helped many clear content that took forever to queue however there were sprouts and returners helping out as well. It's also the ease of availability with how you have the Novice Network availible wherever you are (even in an instance) so you don't need to think twice before asking a question, or go to a certain hub in hopes someone will answer there. It was handy, that's all I'm saying and I appreciated it for that.

Don't get me wrong there were those that are super friendly and like helping, but toxicity was pretty blatant and overtook the general purpose of NN. But this is my experience from this time last year.

So as I stated, the experience on the NN varies on the world they are on.
When Gilgamesh was on the same data centre as Balmung it had the reputation for being the most likely source of duty finder jerks. If you had someone behaving badly in DF, chances were they were from Gilgamesh. Like you, I can't say what they're like now since the server reorganization but I can easily picture their novice network being that way back then for sure just based solely on the average DF behaviour.

You can ask anything on any platform and get a response. Your point is? Are you unhappy that people actually find the NN in their world useful? lol. Does that not go along with your "mentors are trash" narrative?

Felt no need to explain it. I already put probably 20 + paragraphs on mentors in other mentor threads. This is just another one. I had this exact discussion probably 4? months ago. Give or take. Can't remember.

Mentorship as a system is objectively trash though. That is, and has been, a constant for years.

Yes there are times when players are helping out but most of the time the chat is filled with other discussions then what should be discussed within the channel. I hope this gets read by Square Enix as I care very much about the game and don't want to see it degrade into a poor state.

Gilgamesh's NN is pretty tame nowadays has general chatting going on from time to time but questions are answered as soon as someone can, ik I try to answer anything that I can see that someone hasn't done yet but if in a duty that takes precedence over NN.

I think the great culling that came with the 3k commendation requirement has done wonders to improve things you still get the odd person but it is nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

The anti-mentor has to disagree with anything and everything that isnt 100% "mentors are trash", or their narrative falls apart quickly.

NN varies significantly by server, and has for years.

I'd say its something that varies on a server to server basis. Cerberus' Novice Network is pretty civil most of the time, with questions being answered whenever they arise. There's some off-topic chatter but it doesn't come at the cost of helpful answers.

The way I see it, the channel should be for asking game content questions and getting answers. Any other use is an abuse of the channel.
But we are humans, not machines. Thus cannot be expected to act like machines. So as long as the questions are answered and not buried in unrelated chatter, it should be fine.
