To be fair, I don't recall any of the other main races being referred to as beasts. There could have their own tribes, sure, but beast tribes have generally referred to the various mob-types scattered throughout the game.

I personally don't care and find it a bit amusing, but I can see why people may think it's odd that a Lalafell is now being tossed into this group.
    Pretty simple.

Dwarves on the first arent an integral part of the major cities (Though at least one is a regular visitor to the bars in the Crystarium), instead living in their own outposts. Lalafel on the source founded one of the major cities, and live in / run them.

We also know that designation doesnt matter at all, given they can freely travel into the Crystarium, and given Lamitt's place in the history of that shard.

Actually they still use "man" or "mankind" quite frequently here to refer to the playable races as a whole - it's "human" that they avoid using as a descriptor.

The term originated in Ul'dah, actually. More specifically at the hands of The Syndicate.

It's something brought up in the second lore book, I believe.

Since it hasnt been said yet, The japanese word for the 'beast tribes" is "BARBARIANS".
Just small clans which arent quite at the same social standard as the other groups. This means the race can be barbarians, or not, if they live with the rest of "modern society".
This gets muddled with how Garleans view the rest of eorzean people.

Aye - it appears as an in universe style article included as part of the publication of the book in Eorzea (since it's supposed to exist in-universe as an Encyclopaedia a denizen or scholar of Eorzea could find in say Limsa or Mor Dhona and read, after all) of sorts written by an in-universe character - a "Concerned Editor" is how it is signed - that is musing on the term Beast Tribe and whether it is truly accurate/worth using, given its essentially arbitrary application, and goes on to mention how it was created as a classification against specific groups whose interests opposed or interfered with those of the city-state.

Amalj'aa, for example, were "declared enemies of the people for opposing expansionist policies that saw the tribe's traditional homeland divided up by mining concerns."

Qiqirn, Sylph, and goblin traders were evicted with the reason given being the protection of "local interests."

Considering the Better Lalafell[Dwarfs] love creating machines and generally new things i feel like it fits perfectly well for them to be a crafter beast tribe.
Nu Mou not so much, we already got a beast tribe in Mheg anyway
