Better than having it be crafted or locked in something like Eureka imo. Maybe not the best... but better.

Back when it came out, dyable AF gear for Heavensward was from A3S. You know, the fight notorious for almost destroying the raid scene entirely?

As a casual player, I'm very disappointed that its behind the EX trial. I have a rough time memorizing things and this fight has mechanics overkill. I really don't care about always having a fight that has "new and interesting" mechanics. Sometimes I want an old fashioned dragon fight, big monster, lots of hit points, does 5 things, that's it. I enjoy a challenge true enough, but why does every new boss fight feel like the developer is trying to show that they should be the one to make the next Ultimate?
Its GLAMOUR, there the pretty and nice things that everybody wants... you want it, I want it, but this is why we cant have nice things... locked behind a PITA Extreme fight.
If they really insist on having it locked behind a trial then they should have had a Hard and an Extreme mode. Hard gives you 1 token with no chest, Extreme gives you 2 tokens and a chest.
I normally don't like to vent like this but this but this has me really upset as after 6 hours of trying to get a clear, I realize that I won't get them.

It's always been my opinion that relics should not be a face roll to get. My favorite relic has always been the step of the ARR relic when you had to defeat Garuda, Ifrit and Titan hardmode, and back in the day it was a challenge.
I do think it should have been a little better ILV though.

And it was available later in the following odd patch, same time as when relics came out in HW. At the very least back then, it also gave you motivation to do raids and people that did, got their dyeable gear within the first savage tier, which was amazing, and if not, just had to wait till the next patch.

I've always considered relic content to be casual yet grindable.
So IMHO putting it behind EX content is a bad idea.
Titan HM was hard because of server limitations and lag. Many times you had to have the fight memorized and move BEFORE Titan's Weight of the Land would show up or you would die.
I bought my first clear in Gil because I was playing in Afghanistan at the time. There was literally no way I could do it otherwise. I even transferred to EU Server Lich thinking it would help ( it didn't). When I got back to the states, I was in a static selling them.
Good groups would also stack behind him for his aoe attacks for aoe heals and to bait weights in the same spots so they weren't spread out.
The phrase: "I totally wasn't in that" could and often was completely accurate.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

I think they got really lazy with this patch. We only got 1 dungeon. They completely ignored the weapon Gerolt gave us and now we can just buy the latest endgame weapons for 1k tomestones. (And not even the new ones, no old poetics so 17 days of roulette and you have your full set for all jobs.) Dyable jobgear is locked behind the same one trick pony extreme trial and Varis doesn't even have his own theme it's just the normal shb dungeon boss theme.

I'm hoping they can provide an alternate path to the same gear later via Grenolt, along with dyeable weapons. That could make sense in conjunction with buying upgrade tokens from hunt seals (keeping it all in the First).
(Also hoping there'll be an easier path to getting Anemos gear at some point... or at least collapse down the long list of upgrades we need to reach that point in the process.)
This really isn't a good approach at all. There are casual grinds and hardcore grinds. I would group extreme trials into the same category with savage raids. Yes this is a grind, but it is far from a casual grind. The previous relic grinds are all about doing things that have zero chance to end up fail and the only factor was the amount time/resource spend on. However, the thing about ex and savage grind is that there is a "Pre-grind" being the condition of successfully beating the encounter. That means before you can begin the actual grind of the item you want, one must go through the hassle of wiping over and over multiple times in pf.
I would usually tolerate the pain/joy of multiple wipes on extreme trial because the reward is gear that has value and meaning into progression of my character. This time, the reward changed to be glamour items that hold less overall value for me personally, but more importantly, relic weapons and AF job gear are items that is targeted towards casual audiences for catching up purpose to begin with.
