Yep, that's how I would prefer to play too. I have actually been distancing myself from groups like that for the past couple years. I'd rather play with a select few people I know - if I play with anyone. To laugh it off like you say. I primarily play this game solo. A real guild, for me, has usually ended badly (maybe I'm the issue?!). Yeah, though "draining" is exactly how I would describe it. Like I actually have the time to commit... It's just some weeks, I don't want to do this or that on that set date. Some days I don't game, or I play something else, etc. I am very... inconsistent with my schedule, so rather than pull a group of people down, and make commitments I'll just keep playing solo.

Its why I don't like playing content I can't complete with PUGs. Not because of the content itself, but because of the people that as KaleShibata says, treat it like a second job. If you're a hardcore player in a hardcore group, thats cool with me. Go for it. But that's just not my speed. People laugh at the term "casually hardcore" but that best describes my play style. I play to win but if we get a wipe or two, I'm not gonna kill myself... It's just too exhausting to deal with the people...

While it may have just been legitimately bad players in your case, I know I sometimes scratch my head at how much less DPS I do than other people.

My rotation maybe isn't fine-tuned to the extent that savage and extreme guides would like it to be, but I know for a fact that it is more than enough for something like Expert Roulette, or normal Trials Roulette. Way more than enough.
And my gear isn't bad either. I no longer have any pieces below i480 HQ, and I meld where ever I can.

I don't use a parser or anything, so I guess it could be prone to some error, but I constantly see some mage or something generating more hate than me via just standing there and popping the occasional spell.

I mean, it doesn't even seem to be a difference in player skill. I think factors like uptime are a huge factor in this regard. As a dragoon, my hits are powerful but with a slow skill speed as well as limited range, so I guess many jobs can simply attack an enemy longer than I can. But it still doesn't explain why some mages can literally just stand there while I'm paying attention to my positionals, using every ability in my kit, etc etc.

Out-dpsing everyone as an AST is a huge no-go. Every single dps has a working rotation at this point and while they get some sweet finishers etc. on their way to 80, nobody is starved for essentials. Even with ilvl differences, getting out-dpsed by an AST means someone was either afking or only pushing one button.
Actually, nevermind. Even with just one button many DPS would STILL be ahead of AST.
ASTs aoe has a potency of 140, DRG first aoe combo step 170. Spamming True Thrust, Jolt II or Cascade over and over again would already deal more damage than an AST giving his all with Malefic & Combust.
AST has by far the weakest pDPS, they even raise others pDPS by buffing them, widening the gap.

I occasionally out-dps DPS on my SCH in experts/ 80s because SCH aoe is incredibly strong and instant, so I never have to worry about canceling casts and have full aoe uptime while healing. But on AST? Nope.

Rasikko out-dpsed everyone (DPS and tank) while playing AST. So, this is obviously about AST and how they, with the lowest pDPS ingame by a pretty big margin, shouldn't out-dps other classes.
I repeat: Rasikko played AST. Rasikko out-dpsed EVERYONE while playing AST. That shouldn't happen. Ever. Not even if you're "I push one button over and over"-bad. Not at 80, not at 71, never.

Because I'm not allowed to vent about anything in a venting thread unless it is 100% in relation to somebody else' post. That is completely not allowed. I am totally not allowed to have the stories that people tell me remind me of my own problems.

Calm your horses.
The things you stated would still not lead to anyone getting out-dpsed by an AST of all people. Getting out-dpsed by other dps even if they should do less damage than you is one thing. That happens, heck even on SCH I sometimes out-dps dps classes as mentioned. But it definitely wasn't "maybe bad players", they were either afking or ran in with broken gear AND only pushed one button. Because with non-broken gear even a RDM only using Jolt would be ahead.
Everyone has their off days but if you're generally know your rotation I can guarantee you, you will not get out-dpsed by anyone "occasionally" doing something. As a DRG it's normal that you're behind BLM, SMN or SAM, they all have very high pDPS and that's what counts when it comes to threat. They profit from your buffs, furthering the gap between you and them.
But they still have to work for their dps. If you're doing all you can it's unlikely that they can out-dps you while half-assing their own stuff.

Not once did I mention AST. The only relation between the quoted post and mine is that one reminded me of the other. I certainly am not defending such an absurd occurrence.

Dear diary,

While running as DNC on an alt, I learned something very interesting about the second boss in Sirensong Sea.

If someone in your party somehow manages to just eat stacks of magic vuln up and hits the magical number of 8 stacks, they are automatically one-shot with Bloodburst. And if said person is your mostly-useless non-aoe'ing DRG co-dps that you partnered for half the dungeon, you're probably better off partnering the tank.

I also learned that Shield Samba doesn't really do much against that many stacks to try to even save your co-dps.
