OP doesn't make the rules. The OP doesn't own the thread. This is a place for discussion and discussions involve both sides not sure what you don't understand about that. As long as people are respectful you should be open to hearing their side.Nah, we just try to respect the rules somebody set up for their thread - and even though we are blunt, many of us value still some basic politeness. And again, this here is no discussion if you properly read the OP's text, but why do I even try to get some senses into the head of people who often live up to an ugly cliche themselves.
Hey I support both threads for adding male Viera and female Hrothgar (I have loads of posts in here and this thread is also the only thread I got a temp ban from forums for due to a homophobic person decided to use nasty slang to insult.), just I cannot ignore the massive elephant in the room of current female Viera and male Hrothgar and looking at another expansions worth of gear would do let alone 2 or 3.Well, being a doubter is all fair game and so on plus forth, but...
:blunt German inhales:
This thread here is mainly about SUPPORT, people. If you entirely sit in the I-don't-care-for-male-Viera-camp, I honestly see no reason why you're even here for. Go and discuss somewhere else, how childish and stupid the believers are. It's getting exhausting to read over and over again stuff that doesn't belong here as well as ruins the positive intention behind the thread.
I for one can also not see the devs adding them in 6.0, but I will nevertheless support the wish for male rabbits to be implemented one day in the future. Basta.
I think it's quite clear there will be some update to older races, there's already a new male midlander preset used by NPCs in both the first and the source with scar and lip differences. So I wouldn't be surprised if there was just a general upgrade to the character creator for 6.0. Hopefully along that line there will be more hairstyle support for hrothgar and viera, if anything I could see it occur with the 5.2 series, what with the story centering around the hrothgar homeland and ivalice
Not really. In all time of the game existing there were plenty of characters that use customized face. Thancred is one of them by the way - you can't create 100% copy of him (I tried, there are little differences) - and he's somebody you meet in very first hours of the game. Few characters in HW, few in SB, few in ShB. That said, having custom face NPCs doesn't mean there's update for playable models incoming. What I mean is update totally can happen indeed, but until they actually announce it there is barely anything what could be used as a hint for it.
I wouldn't say that. In terms of unique NPCs yes those faces such as Hiens are unique because they are story relevant, but these are faces used by multiple throwaway NPCs out in the field that are obviously using CC presets to edit them, unlike say the child models which are generally the same face with different hairstyles. Not really. Also Yoshida's gone on record that they plan on upgrading the graphical textures of the game but wanted to focus on getting shadow bringers out. Based on this and the fact that some of the base 1.0 models are 7 years old at this point, I think it's been hinted that a CC update is planned for the future. Whether that be 6.0 or 7.0 it's almost an inevitable QoL change that the older races receive some sort touch up along with that.
Of course this is just healthy speculation, whether they actually follow through or not is completely up in the air, but so are most things it would strike me as odd that they would spend time on special facial models for non-important npcs that are not children instead of working on hairstyles for Hrothgar.
Also examples.

Given that they wanted to provide a more beastly race option, and that male Viera are a pretty blank slate in terms of design, I'm kind of surprised they didn't kill two birds with one stone and model the males off the mythical Jackalope.
Weird and beastly with antlers & fangs, but also still recognizably a rabbit.
Ah well, that ship has sailed. Would have been neat though.
Find some antlers you can wear, put on the angel costume, and tell people you're a wolpertinger.Given that they wanted to provide a more beastly race option, and that male Viera are a pretty blank slate in terms of design, I'm kind of surprised they didn't kill two birds with one stone and model the males off the mythical Jackalope.

Even if that was a possibility, I personally hate the trope of Ugly Beastly Men and Pretty Beautiful Human faced Women in races.Given that they wanted to provide a more beastly race option, and that male Viera are a pretty blank slate in terms of design, I'm kind of surprised they didn't kill two birds with one stone and model the males off the mythical Jackalope.

Like, if its a beast race, the beastly features, aka an Animal Muzzle shoukd go both ways. Not just the males, or even the females. So, if the Viera were gonna be a beast race in XIV then both males AND females should have Rabbit face
None of those faces would appeal to me for sure. If I was going to play a male (on an alt), and midlander would be my preference since highlanders are too bulky (literal cavemen), they would have to look more masculine, and probably older for me. Still, I wouldn't say no to more variety, since half the midlanders in the game use the exact same face. Stubble is kind of a necessity as well for making a good looking human male.Of course this is just healthy speculation, whether they actually follow through or not is completely up in the air, but so are most things it would strike me as odd that they would spend time on special facial models for non-important npcs that are not children instead of working on hairstyles for Hrothgar.

Thank God they didn't go full beast with viera, that would be hideous. I agree though, if one was gonna be more beastly then both should be, otherwise it would be weird. Granted, they have the 7 foot tall au ra males, and 5 foot tall females, so that's already getting a bit weird. In that case I think the males are just compensating for something though.Even if that was a possibility, I personally hate the trope of Ugly Beastly Men and Pretty Beautiful Human faced Women in races.

I'm sure such a decision would have got a load of complaints when released too, I very much doubt it would have got 1131 pages of complaints though.
Plus, I don't know about anyone else, but what they ultimately went with for their beast race just doesn't seem all that 'ugly beastly men' to me.
Not that it's a route I'd want to go, but if hypthetically they'd chopped the tail off the Hrothgar and stuck some bunny ears on them instead that'd still be a (slightly) less weirdly dimorphic than the Au ra turned out.
