4 Expansions later and tab targeting is still bad.

Tab is simple once you understand how it functions.

It targets, in order, from left to right on your screen, in your field of view.

This is how it functioned in FFXI as well, and IMO this is vastly superior to closest target first, because you can easily manipulate it by rotating the camera. In a system where you only target the closest enemy first, if you want to target the fourth-closest enemy you have to hit Tab four times, but to target the same enemy in a system that goes left to right on screen, you can quickly throw the camera into position to where that enemy is directly to the leftmost side of the screen or the next target to the right of the current one.

I would normally agree with you but, the problem is "target nearest enemy" is broken and doesn't work half the time. It just picks something at random.

Next time, try putting this in your OP instead of just complaining that it's "bad" and not as good as WoW. Although I prefer left-to-right I agree it's definitely a problem if the game seems to have an option that doesn't actually function properly. It does seem like the best solution is to give everyone the ability to use a system that works for them, but that is pretty bad if it truly doesn't work as described.

Odd. I have yet to see it not work, ever, i.e. since ARR was released.

I'd rather it target whatever mob is closest to the center of your screen that way you can manipulate your camera but not in a weird way that you have to line the mob up with the edge of your screen.

It's a lot more natural to be able to tab target the things you're directly looking at instead of the things on your left first.

I brought up this issue once before in r/ffxiv and got nothing but git guds and learn to play with it wow scum and random comments like that. needless to say i was banned from ffxiv for having a particular vocabulary when talking with some of those people XD. Nothing racist mind you but, pretty harsh language none the less.

You shouldn't bother with Reddit. This is the best place to post for FFXIV. Personally, I can't even post on that board, because I have too many downvotes. I barely used Reddit before, so I contacted moderation. Get this, they told me to go farm likes on another board and come back. Heck NO!

Holy cow. Why do you even play this game? Doesn't seem like you enjoy it with how many threads you've made in the last few days complaining about things

While most of everything in this game is broken I still enjoy what isn't. Like trials are great, story is better than most even being a basic story of good vs evil, pvp is decent with the new ovoo map. While I hate this games bad mechanics, it's still a good game.

As was said earlier in this thread, this can be done with gamepad via the interact/confirm button. It's also why having multiple player characters around an NPC isn't a problem as that button will also select the NPC.

Is there not an equivalent keybind for keyboard/mouse?
