Missed that part, definite NO on having one job locked out once you pick another, even if it was just for DRK and PLD. In any other game sure, but with how XIV is set up that would be a very, very poor choice.

This depends. In FFIV Cecil was a Dark Knight who atoned and became a paladin, two opposites on the spectrum. In FFXI a Dark Knight is one who walks a lonely road full of pain and suffering, but isn't locked into that profession.

If in FFXIV the job says you can be either/or, it'll make sense and you'd only be locked outta Paladin/Dark and be realistic, is it that big of a deal when only a fraction of people would realistically want to level Paladin AND Dark Knight?

Away with sword-wielding gladiators, axe-wielding pirate marauders, conjurers, and thaumaturges with elemental magic.
A chance to really shake up the lore. And with it, the mechanics.

Dark Knight should be the Job of the Mercenary Class

Thief Should be the Job of the Scout Class

Gunblade User or whatever you would call it(Gunbladier?, lol) should be the Job of the Musketeer Class

Green/Time Mage should be the job of the Arcanist Class

Summoner should be the job of the Oracle Class?

If you read the interviews that are linked in this post you should get somewhat caught up. Pretty sure one of those interviews talks about the job system too.

Heck I may even re-read some of them, I was skimming over one and I found some information that I forgot, or didn't noticed first time.

Like this for example:

However, we plan on having gear created by attaching multiple materia surpass job-specific armor in quality.

You really will defend anything SE does or says. I wonder what they did to get this kind of loyalty from someone; I'd love to know the trick to it.

They would be leveling one class - Gladiator - and would then advance Paladin and/or Dark Knight through quests. They wouldn't be leveling both.

Also, if you think most people wouldn't be interested in using both jobs, you obviously haven't been paying attention to how most people level/progress through all classes currently in this game. It's the main feature of the armory system - play everything! I don't see why, with fees for extra characters, we shouldn't be able to access everything on one character especially when it conflicts with the Armory system.

The lore of Cecil doesn't have to exist in this game; they can create their own FFXIV lore for being able to use both Paladin and Dark Knight and I don't see a good gameplay reason to restrict players like that translation says. If the translation is correct and they choose to do that, I think it would be an extremely poor decision and in direct conflict with the Armory system.
