I've not read every post in this discussion, so I don't know if it's already been mentioned...but you can already hide player names, free company names, titles, and minion names. I know, because I've enabled all those options. I personally don't want to see other players names, titles, etc. Just my own personal preference. When I play this game, my avatar is the Warrior of Light/Darkness. The other players moving around in the world are just the general public. Essentially just NPC's. So I'd personally be in favor for this same block option for glamours. No one, prior to me posting this information, knew I was blocking everyone's names, free company names, titles, and minion information. It didn't negatively impact anyone in any way. Doing the same with hiding glamours would be the exact same, in my opinion. If Square Enix gives us the option to block everyone's names, free company names, titles, and minion information, why not glamours? I mean they DID give us the option to block for names, titles, etc...

I don't think it's the same thing. I also turn off other people's names. But the system is turning it off, not replacing it with something else. I don't think you can just turn off a glamour, something has to take it's place be it whatever the actual gear they are wearing is or the system replaces with artifact gear or whatever.

Since this thread is unfortunately revived in full, I must ask...

I'm not likely to even use such a feature if it was ever added, but if I did....am I the only one who would use it to cover up near-naked people?

I couldn't care less about immersion-breaking frog suits and Super Mario cosplay glamours, but I swear that some people intentionally design their characters to look gross and be as close to nude as the game allows.

It seems that one of the major concerns here is potential for harassment (via screenshots, streaming, social media, etc), but I want to cover you up more, not less.

    Am I crazy?

Eh I don't know that it makes you crazy. If it got implemented I wouldn't use it at all. Even nearly naked people don't bother me. It really doesn't bother me what people wear or don't. Honestly I see more fun and clever glamours than I do ones that I consider "bad". But it's all subjective. This entire thread is lol.

Tanks should wear plate, healers should wear robes, and no one should be in a fight seriously wearing carbuncle slippers and lingerie.

I don't propose a limit to glamour, I just want to be able to turn off other players glamours displaying on my client. That way they can "Express" themselves all they want, and I don't have to suffer another topless male in a thong.
I couldn't agree more. Men with dresses, people running around with slippers or stupid maid outfits, and chocobo/frog heads. It's so immersion breaking for ME. I don't want to see that stuff. I want to see parties full of cool MMO Final Fantasy characters decked out in cool gear. It brings a huge smile to my face when I finally get into a party where everyone "looks" like the job their playing. Not men in thongs or cat girls in bikinis with slippers and a snowman face.

I have a character in metal bikini. It's the coliseum gear. It's not her glamour, it is her actual gear because it is best gear for her at her level. She looks like the job she is playing based on that actual gear SE put in. But I'm not sure everyone is happy to see it based on some of the comments in this thread.

A lot of the actual healer gears are "dresses". Many players who play male healers use glamour over those "dresses".
So if you want to turn off people glamours, then you'd actually see more male characters in "dresses".
Same thing with "bikinis" and "thongs".

And not even "it's a robe!" but actual, legit dresses

This is something that seems to be overlooked repeatedly.

That 2.0 WHM BIS look was pretty horrible. Meanwhile these days you'll likely have similar stories between the current crafted sets and 24 man pieces.

Give people the ability to blacklist specific sets and the issue is resolved. There's many ways in which a workaround could be implemented. Perhaps it could be tied to the block function?
