There are a few things I could list, but my biggest complaint currently is that old content is dead. There is no incentive to go back and do Extreme trials or the past Savage raids. Unless you do them synced, which takes away from the fun and isn't how the game was meant to be played. Outside from looking for players who want to redo old content with you or getting lucky in PF, newer players miss out on a lot of what made FFXIV amazing.
One idea I have to fix this, is by adding two new roulettes - Extreme Roulette and Savage Roulette. Except they would function differently. Due to the difficulty of the content, the trials and raids chosen for the roulette would be the same throughout the week. That way, players would have 1 whole week to "learn" how to clear it, and get their reward. And then they could redo it once a day for a lesser version of the reward, or just to help other players because it's a fight they love doing.
As for what the reward should be... how about potions and tinctures? Or whatever else you can think of. It doesn't matter. As long as it's something that motivates people to do old content again, I'd be happy. But hey who knows? Maybe these mechanics won't even exist anymore.

A menu and inventory system that's considerably less clunky and awful
None of this "five different separate bags that can't always be open all at once and like three different menus to get to retainer/bank storage and 50 clicks to escape every menu because "no" is the default option for some reason" nonsense
Hyperbolic perhaps but good Lord the amount of menu changing and clicking just to organize my bags is mind numbing
Mostly just technical changes. Their game formula works, but whenever somebody suggests a new feature for this game here on the forums, people cry "dev time" this and "spaghetti code" that.
Imagine an engine where the team could actually work on the game efficiently.
Definitely the most important thing, I think. Something scalable and easily upgradable.Mostly just technical changes. Their game formula works, but whenever somebody suggests a new feature for this game here on the forums, people cry "dev time" this and "spaghetti code" that.
Imagine an engine where the team could actually work on the game efficiently.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
All I want the most is these 4 things: Weighty action combat, a more immersive and relevant open world, better graphics and better character customization.
I must agree, it’s kind of annoying to hear these same excuses that shouldn’t even be an issue to begin with. Oh, and who can forget the classic “bUt FFXIV iS sTiLl sUCcESsfUL” while missing the point entirely. I don’t know the status of a possible new ff mmo, but if it’s not going to be announced in the next 5 years, then we are unfortunately going to be stuck with what we have for a long long time.Mostly just technical changes. Their game formula works, but whenever somebody suggests a new feature for this game here on the forums, people cry "dev time" this and "spaghetti code" that.
Imagine an engine where the team could actually work on the game efficiently.
But to be on topic, I would mostly want improved character customization and slightly better graphics.

- return of the xi/xiv races but get rid of the clan system, just have those features as options. also, balanced gender options.
- a more modern take on the combat system (i like tab target though)
- a pvp system designed in tandem with said combat
- essential player info accesable in sanctuary areas (eg, guild recruitment, rankings, etc,. having them on lodestone isnt enough imo)
- a more work efficient housing system that doesnt eat up data/dev time. I'd be with customisable inn rooms tbh
- eureka/xi style rare drops to keep the overworld populated. doesnt have to be end game gear but i will farm any nm for a scorpian harness
- more freedom in glamour options.
- keep the weapon based job system though thats cool

For when the next FF MMO comes to surpass FF14 lets say FF17 will be it in my opinion then I want this:!
1) Combat System that is more similar to Guild Wars 2, Blade & Sould and Black Desert in regard of Combat Activity, Synergy, Reactivity and Responses to Player Actions, that rewards much much good teamwork in sense of felt efficiency and scale of epicness how your characters interact with each other in combat, when characters act in sync and synergize their gameplay mechanic to perform awesome skill combinations with each other.
2) World: A seemingless vast explorable world with no loading times ever anymore between map parts that are longer than say maximum 2-5 seconds, that has far more explorable maps, than FF14. F14s game world isn't huge, how many maps has it by now exactly? Defintely under 50, when I think about how many explorable Maps GW1/2 has, defintely more than FF14, because there constantly got/gets worked on new explorable maps and that not only mainly for expansions.
Additionally I want for the next FF MMO not that the maps feel so extremely stagnant and DEAD again, where absolutely NOTHING happens in them, unless a FATE spawns that players play on. Creatureds just stand still, doing nothing, moving not a centimeter their bodies, and if they do, its in ther programmed felt 3 step circles that they don't leave, unless getting attacked or drawing player aggro, following the player, till they get pulled back invincible to their spawn points.
Super stupid, unrealistic and very very annoying game design.
3) Mounts, definetely use the system of GW2, hands down, there exists no better, no more interesting and fun Mount System, than in GW2, instead in quantity, the next FF MMO, likely 17 should focus first on absolute high quality meaningful mounts, that berich the games world, lore and unique gameplay. In fact GW2 does so many things better than FF14 and in return FF14 has also superior aspects, that I just believe a mixture of GW2 and FF14 would be perfect in many ways for a potential FF17 somewehen in the future.
4) Races: Want defintely new ones, something that has nothing to do with FF11/14, something that lets you really immerse with each race completely different cultures, behavious, rites an so on, witg on learnable languages ghat you actually NEED to learn FF12 sytely to understand conversations between foreign cultured other species. Get rid of tribes, unlesd they get made to actually matter for your character's opersonality and how others may react upon you.
5) Jobs: Get rid of weaponbased Job Changes, rework it to Job Crystal related Job Changes and expand the Job Crystal System to become alot more interesting and fun in regard of character development and progression. Always baffles me how long this game runs already with its ridiculous bad inventory and equipment system that screams ou loud, how undrdeveloped and outdated it is for a game like FF14, when it fact it should be the crystals that should organize EVERYTHING that is job related - this includes gear and especially weapons, storing all your build related infos in the Job Crystals

Since SE is currently working on FF7 remake, and most likely a FF8 remake afterwards, I just can’t see a single player FF16 coming anytime soon. I think 16 is the next mmo personally, but I could be wrong, could be 17. It’s just, usually brand new single player FFs pull a “Nomura” and never get released for years and years.
