Bumping this one more time as it's almost impossible to organize people in PF to do this without the strategy of leaving and re-queing. Assuming since no comment on it for over a week, it's acceptable to do. But would still be awesome if a Mod could confirm.

If doing this hurts other players its kind of messed up that it's just being allowed.

I luckily didn't get any mass leaves yet on the light data center, but I imagine it will start happening really soon.
You can't blame the community for terribad RNG. This one is totally on Squeenix.

Wow. That's some scumbag level of player. Basically screwing over the rest of the people on the boat who are trying to get a high score. People need to identify the groups who are doing this and if they are all a part of a certain shared Discord or FC, need to spread the word that they are cretins.

It seems that the less people in an instance, the higher chance of spectral currents. It's not clear if that's determined upon instance-load, or at the time of spectral catches.
If it's at the time of spectral catches than a party leaving probably doesn't affect anyone.
If it's at the time of instance load than a party leaving is probably ruining the run for everyone.

There are at least 3 topics posted here that bring this up.
No mods have commented. No devs have commented. And content hasn't been patched to add a lock-out.

So can only assume there is no issue with doing it as it doesn't impact other's gameplay (presumably?).
But again. In situations like these it would be nice if mods/devs could take 5 minutes to comment so that we know what's acceptable.

I fully understand why people want to leave and re-queue to get the proper weather as it's -much- more efficient.

And live letter did state that it's ok to leave the instance early here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...78#post5293778
"You can also leave early if you’re not interested in scores or something comes up while you’re fishing."

The devs won’t comment on something like this until they have gathered enough information about the situation. They will usually wait a few weeks unless it’s a critical issue.

What do you expect? Some achievements and bonuses are party wide. You're not going to find 24 fishers to farm this with in a few months so everyone is trying to get the rewards before it becomes impossible.

They keep making side content that does not scale, like Baldesion Arsenal and 72 man Frontline, and participation suffers as a result. I don't get it.

The one thing I was looking forward to in 5.2 patch just find out it's terrible and not worth doing. They should get rid of points system and just give you points for fish you trade in to earn achievements and points. Once turn in enough fish earn the minion and mount.

I feel like the devs are really short-sighted when it comes to implementing new content sometimes and do not think about how players could potentially abuse the system in a way that makes it suck for everyone else.

Of course it's allowed. If they didn't want it to be allowed, they could easily have stuck a 1 hour lockout or something on it so that you couldn't enter more than once per period (which I see them potentially eventually doing).

The way this event was designed (with emphasis on RNG elements) directly encourages this kind of behavior, so I can't fault the players one bit for doing whatever they can to bring the RNG back in their favor. The only people that it's "hurting" are the people who don't care enough about maximizing their scores to follow suit and reenter, so chances are a good chunk of them don't even care anyway.

This is a pretty disgusting mindset to have. Basically you're saying it's okay to do things that negatively impact other players because it benefits you. SE has always taken a stance that this behavior is NOT okay, and have always (eventually) put in place safeguards to try and prevent it. They do seem really bad at anticipating this behavior, but they get around to adding in penalties to people who abuse the system for their own gain sooner or later. I can say with 100% certainty they will add a lockout penalty to this content very soon. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was changed as early as 5.21.

The problem is the title hunters are also hurting the group severely by sticking around as well. For some of the titles you want to actively avoid triggering spectral currents, which means these people are purposely letting spectral trigger fisher get away. If you're in a 24-man instance and an entire group is purposely not catching spectrals, your chances of getting any currents at all go down dramatically. I've noticed a very real decrease in spectral current triggers in the last few days as opposed to what I was seeing in the beginning (like, out of 36 spots, I saw a total of 2 currents yesterday) and I am assumingi it is because of people leaving the instance or title hunters staying and purposely throwing away spectrals. The fact is we have no reason to believe the game auto-adjusts current trigger rates mid-instance, and my experience with trigger rates, especially on the third leg of the trip when half the group is gone, seems to suggest that yes, people leaving hurts the rest of the group.
