Full region lock. No preferred regions straight up EU can only play with EU type deal.

I love that ffxiv does not do this like so many MMOs I have meet loads of American/Japenese/Australian/Norwegian friends due to just being able to play wherever I want to, rather than forced to. I will scream to the heavens thank you for no region lock!

Oh lord, yes. When the 5.1 patch went live and new housing opened up, I spent an entire evening wandering around Mist, the Goblet, and the Lavender Beds. Every plot I found had someone camping it and madly clicking, and I felt like it would've been a jerk thing to do to sit there trying to snipe it out from under them. In the end, I gave up and went back to our FC house to train chocobos, tend the garden, and then queue for roulette.

And then I thought, "Hey, while I'm here, I wonder if there's a plot here in Shirogane?"

And I went and checked, and there was a plot just down the street (but in another ward). And I thought, "Oh, well, I'll go see who's camping that one, and then I'll call it done for the evening."

And there was no one camping it. And I thought, "Well, I'll click the purchase button a few times, and it'll reject me, and then I should go do something else. As much as I want a house, this has been a frustrating evening."

And then I clicked it, and suddenly I'd spent 3.25 million gil.

"Dumb luck" is not a sustainable strategy for making housing attainable. It's true in real life (hello, Seattle and San Francisco housing markets!), and it's true in MMOs. But in one of those two scenarios, the situation is hypothetically fixable.

    (Spoiler: it's the MMO.)

To be fair to SquareEnix, they are seemingly adding Ishgard housing (once we finish building it), which should help alleviate a very tiny bit of the housing pressure. Maybe they could expand on that idea and just design some new neighborhood layouts for existing areas? So crafters could then help construct a new neighborhood in Shirogane (with an appropriate number of wards), or in Mist, or whatever else. That way you'd also get some variety in layouts (but the styles/feels are already established ones), and you'd also make it crafter content so that even after the Ishgardian reconstruction is eventually done you'd have options for the same sort of effort.

Of course, I'm guessing there's technical reasons behind the scenes for limiting the number of neighborhoods...

BDO's stamina regeneration with forced msq locked behind having enough to just talk to the npcs.

Tera's wonky instance levels, If you get too high of a level to queue into a dungeon, you have to unsync it to finish quest, Ebon Tower is a major offender as it's a 59 dungeon that once you ding to 60 poof now unsync it with rubbish gear(where you will just die a lot since tuned to 5 people) or wait till at end game to knock it off list making story increadibly disjointed. Not even side story the main story is disjointed, 1 run through had me having Ebon Tower, Askasa's hideout, the queen's core and the 1st level 60 dungeon all open at once. Which means I had 4 big bad evil people (main antagonists) up at once with vastly different plans 2 of which hindered on dealing with the previous one hello Kelsaik being both alive and dead at the same time.

Pure open world, this is more of I don't think they can rather than they won't, ffxiv is very set in how it does its world and I'm fine with it, just sometimes wish the cities were like massive cities.

No instances like EverQuest before Lost Dungeons of Norrath. And contested zone camping. Not the pitiful shade Eureka tries to be. Full on train the entire zone onto the people who have the place you want to camp contested zone camping, with limited numbers of safe camp spots. Leading to lines to get a coveted spot in one of those groups. And the pressure to find a replacement before you have to go so you don't get the stigma of breaking up the group.

Don’t know if anyone has said it but:

    Support Jobs

Like, an actual role dedicated to jobs that focus on supporting the party instead of just dealing damage. Not that this means they would be completely banned from dealing damage either (I’m not aware of an MMO that exists where support jobs don’t at least have paltry damage output).

Just a shame they’re literally impossible to ever work into ffxiv. I don’t even want to think about how many expansions we’d have to give up for that to happen.

That said, it seems to me that anything that’s not a pure dps is difficult to work into ffxiv (see: ranged, red mage, healers).

Additionally I like the concept of merit points from FFXI, and whatever their equivalents are called in other MMOs with a similar system. I think it’d be really cool if there was a way to get stronger outside of doing the same ilvl ladder grind for 6 years straight. But everything about them opposes what ffxiv stands for, especially in terms of still being able to get high / max ilvl if you’re only able to play a few hours a week (not saying this a criticism)

corruption was a tentative system that was awful, i still play wow time to time because friends and basically most ppl dont enjoy the system. Its better then titanforged yes, but still not good. The only nice thing on wow since start of BFA is the horrific visions.

As many others have posted here already, actual alternate builds and skill choices. FF14 is way too locked into it's DPS focused design for this ever to work. Even if they did decide to put in varying character builds and/or player selectable skills, in less than a day people would math out the definitive meta selection and choices that would essentially be the one way to play.

Skill builds are really a singleplayer thing because at least part of the fun is finding a combination to become overpowered, while in multiplayer games being overpowered is seen as a bad thing. I had a lot of fun building broken characters in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance or even Fire Emblem Fates but that just wouldn't fly in a competitive multiplayer.

XI's subjob system would be completely broken in XIV. We had it a little bit, back when you needed another class leveled to unlock any given job, and they gave up on it.

Still, it was fun to be a Bard and strap on Ninja as the subjob and get shadows to block damage, then switch to white mage sub and be able to heal in an emergency. Or be on black mage sub red mage and be the ultimate damage machine, or black mage sub white mage for an emergency raise. Red mage sub ninja to solo things, red mage sub white mage to be a healer that never had to rest back MP. Pretty much all melee subbed warrior for the damage. Ninja subbed warrior for provoke. Thief subbed ninja for shadows, but also did really with soloing with a dancer sub....
