As an aside, I noticed that in the ocean fishing cutscenes other people's characters are displayed as doing a variety of different emotes and poses. So there's very much a set precedent about other people's characters appearing differently on my screen compared to how they show up on their side. So it doesn't matter if somebody has the head-canon that their character is super serious and reserved - if they take part in ocean fishing, the cut-scene could show them using some of the sillier emotes in the game.

With that in mind, I don't think the development team would be fiercely against the suggestion in the original post of this thread.

SE had 50/50 chance implementing this that they would probably alienate half the players as irl when companies chose a path. Now in the aftermath (115 pages), I imagine they are considering a change already. I glamour everything. If players don't want to look at it , that is their prerogative. I don't care. It's a game. If they make it so others can choose not to see my glamour then so be it. People who glamour will still glamour their gear. It's not going to affect sales of clothing. That is a mute point. "Glamour is true end game" people will still glamour and craft or buy in game and buy off the store. This only a thing because of the dropping gender roles on garments. Tip toe around it but, it is a moral issue that got dragged in. This was bound to happen. I don't understand why ppl want to force others to look at what they don't want to look at. What part of client side do ppl not understand?

Right, right! Client side is harmless. Nobody can see what you see except for you, and vice versa. And honestly, the only way somebody would know if you was using this feature on them was if you were to straight up tell them. Hence why I don't find some of the comments necessary ... Except for the memes. The memes are a mandatory distraction from all the chaos~

No harm in the least to ask for players to be able to hide others glamours.
It affects no ones game play...in any way.

I dont care what other ppl wear, but if ppl are bothered so much they want to turn it off, yes, allow them to.
    No problem!!

I seriously doubt that the development team would implement this kind of filter. Too much of a minefield, and stocks would take a hit (that is how real world politics influence a video game made to generate revenue). Besides, the development team seems to be more insightful than the folks who want this filter.

"... I was heading to the office on a Saturday and I saw a situation that made me very sad. I was trying to go into the office and I was waiting at a red light. I saw a high schooler coming from the other side of the road in their school uniform. It seemed that they were biologically male at birth but they were wearing a sailor fuku, which is traditionally female attire. In Japanese high schools, there’s more and more schools that are accommodating for freedom of not being restricted to a specific gender for your uniform...That person probably wanted to present the gender they identified with in their heart...On the other side of the road was a mother and a daughter. The daughter was perhaps 5 years old. As soon as the mother saw the high schooler, she shielded her daughter as if she didn’t want her daughter to see. The high schooler must have been very hurt. Situations like these still happen and there’s areas where there’s not as much understanding.

We need to see more change in the values people have, and we need to consider for Final Fantasy XIV how we push forward in-game and how we represent it."
-Naoki Yoshida (interviewed by Heather Alexandra)

Those are not the words of someone who is ok with a filter option.

If your reasons for wanting it are immersion, than ask for specific glamours (mascot like ourfits and swimwear seem to be mentioned a lot)... I'm still not ok with it, but you could be more surgical in your claim.

If you feel that there is nothing wrong with muting peoples visual expression, than why do it anonymously? Have a flag next to your name so that people that do not like the filter have the option of not playing with you (if you get harassed for it, report them, just anyone else). I vote the symbol should be a Blind Eye.

I don't really have outrageous glamours. I don't care for the mascot suits. But I don't want to be muted because I definitely don't want it to happen to someone that it means a whole hell of a lot more too. I'll even admit that I used to think like many who want this option, but I definitely don't anymore.

To remain clear, I still find this idea to not only be bad, but unethical.

I'm going to dye all my gear gold (or heck, metallic purple and green!), Manderville in every instance during every boss and change my voice to the squeakiest popoto pips.

How's that for immersion? Cause it sure isn't a glamour.

There are many, many other ways for people to ruin "muh immersion." And you could always, always just play with friends. It's an mmo, go make them.

I agree with the OP. I really would like an option to turn off other people's glamour. It doesn't hurt those who glamour. It doesn't hurt the game. It only affects what -I- see and what I show to those viewing my monitor. Really, why isn't this in the game anyways? Please, add this feature! I think it would benefit the game a lot

[EDIT] Just an aside, if this option was added, I definitely wouldn't keep it on all the time. Sometimes it's fun to have a laugh and see some really goofy or extremely well put together glamour sets. Sometimes it's more fun to see 'frankenarmors' as someone else put it. I'm sure it's probably been said, but this isn't an all or nothing sort of thing. I'm sure everyone could enjoy a feature like this at some point.

Actually it does take away something from other players. There's a reason I don't use mods no matter how cool some of them are, it's because others can't see them. I glam with the same feeling I have IRL to express myself and I want people to see it. Whether i'm feeling mad skimpy or serious thematic glam, I want you to see those cheeks in all it's glory
