    Materia with real benefits suggestion

    I suggest we get Materia added to the game that when its added to equipment gives a real benefit for character customization examples

    Tier 1: enfire (boost physical damage) effect(animation for appearence fun) attacks display flames
    -other options also existing such as enwater enaero enearth etc (all boosting damage for the player and giving an animation of an elemental attack)

    Tier 2: (perm benfits as long as its held into equipment until you die if you die it is removed for 15mins) grants protect,shell,faith,bravery based on your choice

    tier 3: (enfeebling materia) grants a enfeebling when equiped to weapons(in armor boost your immunity and chance to dodge such enfeebling moves again this will be fully choice based on what enfeebling materia you pick.
    Tier 4: Increase drops/gil whatever else Materia

    and so forth.

    THis would make the game feel less dead and more like you do something uniquely for your own character type

    from what I read that was for elemental resistence which is pointless in a game when elements don't matter at all big difference in animation the element and boosting physical damage and elemental resistence.

    This won't ever happen. Its already work enough for them to balance the weights for existing stats, and many stats are already useless. Do you really think they should add more effects and have to balance those just so you can have some pretty particle effects on your weapons? The Relic weapons would suddenly become much less sought after.
    The other ones you mentioned sound stupidly OP, redundant, and useless all at the same time.

    This simply isnt that kind of game for this.

    It's a cute idea but... I fear most of those materia would be dead on arrival. Customisation ceases to exist the moment you introduce a "choice" between more damage and more not-damage.

    Perhaps if it was a purely cosmetic special "elemental materia" slot, like something similar to SWTOR Tunings? For example: put an Ifrit materia into the slot and your weapon will display flame VFX, or a YoRHa materia and have a control field ring appear around it. In any case, being a form of glamour is probably the only way I could see that working.

    But then, the existence of relics, crafted trial weapons and Ultimate rewards renders even that sorta redundant. And I suspect "engine limitations" would stand in the way of even applying alternate shaders to weapon models because of course they would n_n

    Real customisation just doesnt work with a game like this where you need to balance everything against everything and where people figure out the "best" way to meld their stats or pick their skills/materia.
    Theres always going to be a meta and implementing all those other options that just dont get used because they're objectively worse or useless in most scenarios becomes a total waste of ressoruces.

    Thats the reason all the elemental materia is gone: there is no elemental damage outside of Eureka anymore - or otherwise we would have had to meld fire-materia into our armor to fight Ifrit and then re-meld as soon as we get dropped into Shiva.

    Stuff like this is great for a single player game where you dont need to account for other people playing with you and where you can build the game around such ideas to give it more deepth. For this game it would be nothing short of annoying.

    In regards to more effects for the weapons and armor... if the materia is really rare and requires a lot of work and maybe luck to obtain: sure, why not. So far special effects on weapon and armor have been kinda a reward for grinds and the like, though and I do think we should keep it like that to make the glowing weapons stand out more and actually be special and unique - instead of just turing everything into a glowing inferno.

    Which is funny since we can still make potions that give us elemental resistance. Hm ...

    Which potions do that, exactly? Cuz pretty sure they changed/removed all of those potion effects as well.

    As Vidu stated, this game's combat and gearing system doesn't support true customization so ideas like this are dead on arrival unless they revamped everything. That's why special weapons and gear are these glowing monstrosities instead of more understated affairs with unique stats/abilities like in other games, plus more stat options would require fights with the depth to necessitate them.

    They way how the Materia System is right now, it should be removed from the game and the stats we get from them should be baselined.

    Its an endless hunt for higher tiered versions of the same crap just to get a few stat points more, which in themself don't matter at all
    As if you'd feel a difference at the begin of the game with any tier 1 to 5 materia, first from 6 onwards the stat boosts became good enough that you can see a little difference, compared to having no materias, due to stats having cap milestones where any stats between two cap milestones are effectively wasted.

    The best Materia System FF14 should get is the same one, from which the whole system originated from FF7

    Materias should have not tiers, they should have just 5 evolution levels to master their abilities they can provide, and if you mastered one materia, then you gain the same materia again in its beginning first evolution form.
    Materias shouldn't provide Stats, but class based Buffs and Skill Upgrades to improve for example for increased MP Cost the potency of spells (MP Turbo Effect from FF7)

    Materia that gives boosts to HP or MP for the cost of reducing an other Stat, like for example Determination, Crit or Direct Hit, if you prefer more survivability over offense for example to customize that way your character more.

    There could be a materia that can maybe increase the range of skills, or increase the number of target/hits, or one which increases your movement speed baseline to Sprint Speed, if equipped.
    There would be so much more fun, if Materia would be reworked to a system that actually does something for character customization and supports it, instand of keeping this endless grindfest for lousy tiny stat increases.

    Weapons, Upper Body n Lower Body have maximum 4 Slots, when rare, 5 when modificated/ total max 15
    Head, Belt, Arms, Legs have 3 Slots max, 4 when modificated. Total max 20
    Accessoires have 2 Slots maximum, 3 if modificated, old content gear of lower ILvl than 460 gets reworked to this then. Total Max 15
    ----
    Grand Total Max if everything got modificated to upgraded version > 50 Slots of Materia that players could use then to modify n customize thei characters.

    Way more fun, than hunting for Materia IX next, just to see having some Stats a few points more, that are eventually wasted becaus the Stat doesn't reach a next cap point where the effect of the stat increeases for you, or the effect increase is so low, that you see no difference.._ If a skill recharges now in 2,35 or 2,38 seconds, plays no role, our eyes will see in combat NEVER a difference under such microscopic number changes!!
