Imagine comparing verbal abuse and abusive treatment to someone wearing the clothes they like and not only thinking they're actually analogous, but believing it is somehow a counter to, and not a perfect example of, what I was talking about in that quote.

The poster you're quoting has been perfectly civil. Far more so than certain posters in this thread who seem to be not so subtly implying that people are being discriminatory for daring to request an optional feature that wouldn't even affect anybody else but themselves. Though let's be honest - some people go through life with a major chip upon their shoulders and are pretty desperate to turn everything into a major controversy even when it legitimately does not impact them in any way.

I honestly cannot imagine what it's like to be drowning in such a sense of entitlement and completely lack the self-awareness to realise how utterly absurd this sentiment is. No, catering to that kind of mentality is not, and would not be, healthy for the game or its community. Especially since commonly cited grievances toward this end almost always involve stuff like "I don't want to see men wear dresses!" and all the baggage that typically entails. It's telling enough that this fake problem seems to only become this horrible, and suddenly major and urgent, issue when they remove a gender restriction. Absolute nonsense.

This is something I have always stood behind and will always encourage : Personal choices. (you can check my history, I've been through several of these threads) If you wanna dress whatever way cool, have fun with that. Wear a moogle head and full cuirass with beach shorts. Make that story up about how the warrior of light wishes to not only remain anonymous but also likes to disarm their enemies with a fuzzy cute headpiece and needs to keep their legs free to throw their particular brand of mountain smashing kicks. However on the flip side of that freedom, people should have the freedom to experience the game how THEY want. Having the option to play through a story dungeon or area and not having to suddenly headcanon why "mcmooglefacearmor wonkypants" is a reasonable person to be fighting beside would be nice for some of us.


Dress however you like, experience the game how you like and do me the same favor.

If you don't like how a person, separate from you, dresses, that's your own personal problem. Calling for SQEX to erase it for you is asinine.

If I was asking you to change how you dress, there would be a problem. Here we are asking to be able to customize ONLY OUR OWN PERCEPTIONS in a video game. This isn't saying women can't wear pants, or men can't wear dresses or pink is a girls color or sequins aren't manly. This is asking to be able to play a game with heavy story elements as we wish.

Bold of you to assume I'm not someone who just likes sexy-cute things as aesthetically pleasing. And it sounds like you've got some personal, conservatism issues you need to work out.

I am 100% for the tasteful/creative use of sex appeal. If it appears to me that you put no effort into your (lack of) outfit, I'm not going to see "sexy-cute aesthetic" I'm going to see "this person wants to see their character with no clothes on for personal reasons".

I've played MMOs for too long to naively assume that every person playing a tastelessly naked character is "doing it for the aesthetic".

Just because it is not a bother to you, does not mean other people want to play a story dungeon next to a chocobo/frog hybrid. Are you alright? I'm concerned - what exactly is it about the suggestion that bothers you so much? It's worded in a civil manner and presented in a way that brings about a compromise for both parties involved.

It should go without saying but the game attracts players from all over the world. From different countries and backgrounds. Which thankfully means there isn't a hive mind mentality and there are multiple valid stances for players to take on this particular issue. If some people want the game to be more 'immersive' then that is a perfectly valid argument for them to make and petition for, especially if it can be done in a way that literally does not affect other players in any way.

Most people with outlandish glamours literally do it JUST so they can get a rise out of people. I know a few people who put on dresses on their male characters, not to express themselves, but because they know it disturbs people. I know people who wear bikini's on their characters JUST because they think Miqo'te are sexy, I know people who wear wear the frog suit and dye it metallic ONLY because it's obnoxious.

You could argue that a person putting on clothing in order to troll is a form of self expression. They are dressing with the intent to shock or annoy people, and that alone says something about them.

That said, it also says something about you if it bothers you.

Like I said before. if your "Expressing yourself" is predicated on how uncomfortable, annoyed, or upset you can make people with your glamours; your personality sucks.

I'm not going to pretend I know what it's like on your Data Centre, but on mine it's very rare for people to glam with the sole purpose of making other people feel bad. I very rarely see glams that could be considered seriously lore breaking, never mind obviously intending to cause offence. When I do see them it's usually in Limsa. In instances? Not often. Most people are very well dressed!

It's not my fault you have so little faith in your personality that you can't just talk to people, or let your words represent you.

I love how you try to make other people look like they have some sort of inferiority complex when you're the one who is offended by a male character wearing a dress.

Fun fact: Running around as an Au'ra White Mage in a thong or a male in a wedding dress doesn't make people think "Wow this person is unique or interesting!" it makes them think, and likely accurately so,'Wow, what a tosser."

Fun fact: not every person comes to the same conclusions as you. Personally seeing those kind of glams gets little more than a shrug from me.
