Just did MSQ-Undying Grasp. Atmospheric as hell, great but that's as old news. Two wipes: one at Phase 1, the other at Phase 2. Yes, I had problems at first to identify in the first half the correct side of the spears as they looked (maybe due to nervousness and tunnelvisioning) all the same but after commenting on it and a friendly explanation by a player who also explained the other important mechanics, I did actually notice it as well. During 2nd phase, I totally forgot that you could fall off the plattform, even though the arena layout was obvious, and jumped with my AoE marker straight into the darkness *lol*. But my good ol' rabbit lady was able to adapt *nod*. There was actually a vote abandon? request after the 2nd wipe (I think) but, as can be surmised, it was ultimately rejected.
Just a proud bad-skilked player

"Sh*t! Sh*t! YOU CAN'T TAKE ME!" *jumps* -Drak, NEST 2019
That's what you just reminded me of lol
This one is beyond your help. Only sleep can save her now.

Hilarious! That made me smile! if I was in a good mood I would do the same thing, even though I normally do good sized pulls when I tank.

I absolutely love this for two reasons. One, it's funny as hell. And two, you pointed out that you're human! One of the things I noticed about this thread is that there is an air of "other people are messing up constantly" and never "and sometimes that person is me." It's refreshing to see someone say, "Yeah, I'm the one that messed up. In spectacularly hilarious fashion." I am now going to think about a time I jacked something up badly and probably drove everyone else in my group crazy. I might even be the subject of someone's post in this thread.
I would like your post a hundred times if I could. :-)

Replying a bit late to this comment, but I think you were trying to use AoE on a single target boss? In most situations you can dodge the aoe marker at the last minute and don't lose any/minimal uptime and using AoE will break your combos so its definitely better to stick close to the boss and use your single target rotations. They felt that I was intentionally doing less DPS in order to be petty or whatever. I guess they felt that it would be better for me to stand in a bad AoE and die just so I can get close enough to use my non-AoE abilities.
Like I said, AoE is the closest thing DRGs have to ranged combat.
Where it's not 1 enemy AoE, but many. Usually the short-term explosive type. A great example is "boxing yourself in" when fighting the last boss of The Twinning.
In such a situation, I have 2 choices:
-Get within range and stand in the AoE. It's not just the ones all over the floor, but I am also within the path of the big beam-like AoEs. Even if I don't die, I get a huge debuff.
-I wait like 5 seconds for the danger to pass and use AoE in the meantime.
I chose the latter, and apparently that was the wrong thing to do.
So you use one attack then you'll have 2.x seconds of free time to dodge aoes before you need to come back and connect the next attack.
*ftfy "heya want me to go normal or single pack pull ?"
Since when is mass pulling not the standard anymore?
There is no expert dungeon rn where you should do single/half pulls, nor mass pulls weren't manageable.
...unless you have that single targeting dancer standing his 25y max range away from the pack, or your healer prefers Physick/Cure 1 spam...

Not a PF, but random overworld story while looking for my weekly hunt target in Western Thanalan earlier today.
Came across two blu's trying to learn Self-Destruct. Naturally I'm watching them for a bit when I realize they're both eating a decent amount of damage, the aoe ring is under them...and Self-Destruct goes off. Both blu's die, one says 'wow we're dumb' before the both of them respawn.
Well hmm.

Dodge? And go where? Another AoE? The stage was littered with them. The boss and the tank were standing in them. The whole point is that I didn't see any other options if I didn't want to eat a face full of hurt.

Post-raid Expert Roulette taught me many interesting (terrible) things about Grand Cosmos tonight.
I learned that an AST spamming Gravity can rip hate from a WAR in Defiance. This can happen at any time during a pull, not only at the very start.
I learned that the first boss only stacks Vuln up to three times, but that's still enough to drop a RDM from max to 226 HP in a single hit.
I learned that its easier to heal double pulls when damage from trash is spread across the entire party rather than concentrated on an undergeared tank.
I learned that the final pack of trash in the dungeon has an enemy who casts healing spells. When party dps is low enough the only option is to burn them down one at a time. This can take a few minutes.
I learned that an AST can tank the last boss in perfect safety when three people die simultaneously to blue fire.
If I were to plug the combat log into a magic calculator I very strongly suspect that the BLM, RDM, and WAR would have been dealing Stormblood damage numbers and that the WAR and RDM would have dealt less damage than the AST. I've never before needed to seriously consider if I should throw a card to the BLM or keep it myself.
