I am all for this. World would be ideal, but regional would be acceptable.

Q20: Will we ever be able to send tells from within an instanced area?
A20: While the feature can be implemented, it’s currently masked. It’s currently masked because we would like to prevent players from harassing each other just because they know they would never party together in the future. We will continue to monitor the situation carefully as we move forward.
I've always wondered why there isnt a world chat or at least a (trade) chat interconnecting all the cities. Regional would also work as well imo.
Agreed with this but I'd also add the caveat that you need to have been playing for two weeks or more on a character, not just the account, as well. Most gil spam bots are hastily deleted after a few hours to avoid detection, and adding a time lock out would keep the ones that can bot through the MSQ in a few hours out of the mix.I could see this being a thing if 2 things are required for it:
1) Off by default - You have to enable / join the chat to see it.
2) Locked by MSQ progression - Make it so you have to finish ARR, but not the patch work, to join the chat.
Yes, this is extremely true. I actually hated being a sprout and seeing that this was all NN was doing on Mateus.
Also regional > world chat preferably.
I’ma have to disagree with this.
In every MMO I have ever played, Regional/World Chat has been a complete dumpster fire, without exception.
It'd be entirely optional. I've met many good friends through in-game chat channels in MMO's. It was far easier back in WoW than FFXIV in no small part due to global chat channels.
Comparison is the theft of happiness. Shout chat exists, and people can turn it off. This chat would exist, shuffle most of the /shout regulars there, and it would be entirely optional.
FFXIV is an mmo that often has a poor show of bringing players together for most of the game. Fellowships can link to CWLS- sure. But what if you don't want just a social group in a limited pool of 100 or so people for a specific topic? Shout chat is just for the area you are in, and if you want to chat while gathering or crafting while not in a hub, you have no options outside of becoming a mentor or being invited to the Novice Network provided you're still a sprout. Novice Network, just like what I am suggesting, is optional.
In light of the updated rules and policy, no world chat means less interaction, less interaction means less chance of people violating the rules, less chance of people violating the rules means less need to moderate.
Thus, I think the chance of a world (or even regional) chat is very small. Stick to novice network/linkshell/fellowship/shout chat/free company.
That's a silly comparison. Then why don't we also get rid of DF and force people to only play with their friends, to limit interactions (in a MMO!) and cause less trouble?
