Don't burn the Shire
If my beloved Gridania need be destroyed I only hope the emote spammers that plague the Aetheryte Crystal are taken with it.

Oh yes. I hope they destroy the Class guilds at minimum.
The WoL would be saddened, but personally I just wouldn't care. I barely spend time in my starting city, and hate the layout of all three. They are also rather boring politically and so are most of the native NPCs we interracted within. I think the only "city" I dislike as much or more is Rhalgr's Reach. With the starting cities I at least have my distant fond memories when I started playing.
I care much more about the expansion cities and Mor Dhona. Both personally and lore-wise.

I am an adventurer, a wanderer and maverick. I don't really care about any place. Even though I like Gridania and live there, I don't have a permanent residence permit and thus don't mind if I have to look for another comfy place.
As I have no house, I have no furniture. All I need is either worn on my body or in those large packs on the back of Midgarsormr, right behind the saddle: My Red Mage and Scholar gear and some valuables, as well as my currency. But else, I don't mind any of those cities. Except for my inn room that I claim since 6 years for free due to the WoL title and Miounne's absolutely outstanding breakfast, I don't care much.
I don't feel any attachment towards the 3 main cities. However I do like other cities or settlements like Idyllshire, Kugane, the Doman Enclave, the Crystarium... Touch those and I might flip a very small table, although if a story is good, I go wherever it takes me. On the other side, I usually like ruins more than buildings. The remnants of the floating city of Nym are for me far more interesting than Limsa, the ruins of the ancient city of Lesalia (sadly only glimpsed during the first Ivalice raid) far better than Ulda'h, The K'mul Astropolis in Rak'tika far more engaging than Gridania, the ghost city of Amaurot more fascinating than most of the "real ones", etc etc... So... bring it on.

Hah. Jokes on you. Gelmorra was already destroyed.

Only way something like this would remotely work is:
1: Absolutely do NOT touch housing
2: If they were to handle it in a similar fashion to The Battle of Lions Arch like in Guild Wars 2 where they had a temporary setup for all ooc related things in an adjacent zone.
Unpopular opinion here, but I liked how some places in WoW were forever altered or even outright destroyed.
It's war, folks. Places get destroyed, people killed. Yes, even places and people one cared about.
I absolutely loved Darnassus and the original Vale of Eternal Blossoms. I remember playing through the story for the first time, I've always been curious about how it would look and when the gates opened and everyone slowly marched in, it was fantastic. It looked so beautiful, peaceful and serene, a true sanctuary. And then came Garrosh and defiled it.
As much I liked Darnassus, the burning of Teldrassil made it very clear that you can't save everyone and everything and sometimes consequences are dire. And they show these consequences.
I really like Ishgard but if it had been destroyed during the whole Dragonsong storyline...so be it. It was a close call as it was. Seeing Ishgard destroyed and its residents turned into refugees before we arrived to defeat the horde once and for all was a very real possibility (in theory, at last. SE would've never gone through with it) and it would have also made for some interesting storyline. How do the proud Ishgardians deal with the consequences of suddenly being refugees themselves? Whom would they turn to? Would some Ishgardian-Dravanian settlements blossom in the aftermath after both sides slowly made peace with one another again? Would they turn to Eorzea for help? Try to build their own settlements in the ruins of their formerly proud nation? Which role would we have played?
I will forever miss Darnassus. It was my favourite city; it had this incredible, otherworldy serenity and magical atmosphere. But no matter how well you prepare, how hard you try, you cannot save everyone. Destroying a minor settlement would only feel like a cheap "Uuh look, it's war and all but wen don't want to upset your sensitive souls so we only take away that little hamlet nobody cared about, kay?".
But as it is, it was less-than-friendly reminder that there will always be some part of the Alliance and Horde that will never get along and fight each other to death.
So if SE wants to destroy a city... go ahead with it, make a good story out of it, show the consequences of war and how extreme and deranged some people become over the years, show us that we cannot solve every problem and save everyone, that sometimes we are too late.

Gridania's market is my main hangout place so if it was destroyed I would be left without a place to stay. Playing after that would be a struggle.
