While Nier: Automata wasn't quite the religious experience for me that it was for others, I do highly endorse it as a fine game with an enjoyable battle system, breathtaking visuals, and a thought-provoking storyline, there were definitely things about it that didn't sit quite right with me, such as Taro's fast-and-loose handling of logical consistency in favor of dramatic impact. (For example - are androids machines, or bags of blood? It depends on the scene!)

I mean, it's pretty obvious this whole raid is based off of Ending K. After 2B's ludicrous death-by-fish-ingestion, 9S went off the deep end, hijacked the entire Machine Lifeform race, and used them as a tool to hunt down and destroy all Battle-type androids, which he now sees as mockeries of his dear companion. 2P is the sole survivor, whom he's chased across time, space and dimensions. The room full of dead 2Bs is further proof!
