[Spoilers] I'm getting sick of shonen manga power-ups each arc

I started playing during Shb so bear with me here. I've just started the Shb campaign and got past the first Ran'jit fight and I am already sighing at the monotony. The first time Zenos did the whole "Imposing Villain you have to strengthen yourself to beat" I was already rolling my eyes about how predictably the arc would play out. Going through this again so soon just makes me want to vent.

Why couldn't we be overwhelmed with numbers? Couldn't he have brought a Sin eater or something? Why does it have to be imposing man X again that we eventually get strong enough to beat, despite still have so little base hp that we get one-shot by random mobs outside town.

Finally, if my character needs to escape, I want it to not be some BS thing that comes out of left field again. Ran'jit should have taken a face full of concentrated Dream Powder to at least stagger him while the party makes away like cartoon villains. I'm the Warrior of Darkness now, I wanted cheapshots and making getaways to feel fun rather than slog through Stormblood story beats again.

I don't think its so crazy that there are people as strong or stronger than the WoL

This guy has literally spent his entire life fighting abominations. He's got more experience than the WoL, empowered by a familiar, and ambiguous other traits. Makes sense he'd be a threat.

Heavensward - complete two zones story lines and move onto a fight to free a friend from a false accusation.

Stormblood- complete two zones story lines and rush back into a fight that we can't win due to long flowing blonde locks and cultural appropriation. (lol)

Shadowbringers- complete two zones story lines and try to free a friend and lose a fight cause muh dude haz dragonz.

I don't mind it happening once, but three times is a pattern i'd rather not deal with another time.

Just my opinion. Won't lose sleep if you don't like it.

Don't worry, it appears Zenos can teleport out of combat so very probably you can beat him in future fight and it wont even matter anymore.

Welcome to Tournament Arcs, the stuff that drives many fans back for more. :P

That said, while not perfect, it's still a rather enjoyable story.

I would find it even more boring and stupid if there was no one to be on par with our WoL. I mean, if our character always wins, where would be the variation?

Even though Ranjid is quite copied from Zenos, it didn't strike me as too odd that someone who served in the military and fought Sin Eaters for years, while also training Minfilias at the side, would be quite strong. (Also, you can argue that WoL is weakened because of taking in the light from the Lightwardens.)

I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.

I agree with you and when a friend of mine did the story they too said: Not another Zenos...

Its the problem when you have a character that has defeated beings like Omega and went against Thordan and his knights alone. It kinda makes no sense that you have characters that come out of nowhere that are so much stronger and that can be beat with "leveling up". Ranjit was even worse for me because first he is only 1 part of a soul and seemingly has lived in peace the last few years. Yet they used him all the time in every zone. In the end we kinda just defeat him without doing any great training to defend ourselves against his fighting style.

People also say that we simply did not know his fighting style but the same should hold true to ours too.

As you said it would be nice if it was simply the amount of enemies that made us retreat. Or maybe we needed to focus on protecting the scions and Ryne. They could be beaten and then he tries to attack them all the time and we take these hits. This of course is something which we cant do forever and when we collaps or are nearly beaten Thancred can jump in an the rest happens like it was ingame. Or maybe he uses poison on us that makes us slower. In that case we can later learn to have something against this thus finally beating him.

I really hope that this does not happen each expansion..maybe they should have not made the WoL that strong from the start.

If leveling up to defeat a foe is distasteful to you, perhaps the RPG genre isn't for you?

If you did something in a party, then you had help.

If you do it in a solo story instance, then you didn't, or not much at any rate.

Most of the other threats we face, we had three to seven other adventurers with us. Ran'jit is only ever fought either solo, or with the help of NPCs of deliberately ambiguous strength.

That said, yeah, he was a pretty weak part of a normally pretty good story. Ran'jit as the commander of superior enemy forces would have been more compelling than him being a direct threat himself.

I have to agree that Ran'jit - I have personaly named him "Master Plot-Mei" - is examle of super lazy storytelling.
Character untouchable until plot says its time for him to go.

Sad thing is, he was General of arguably strongest army in that world + benefit of Sin-Eaters, so they could made the story very compelling using that.
Instead, they just made him Master Plot-Mei, his armies be damned.

Who needs ancient Ascian to plug you from a life-stream after falling into endless pit?
Maybe Y'stola, certainly not Master Plot-Mei.

Luckily, Emet-Selch, Amaurot and whole ending are in contrast exceptionaly good, so let just forget that stuff before even happened.

PS: I hope SE learned something with this, and will not make our boy Zenos another lazy plot-boy.
