Hopefully they'll use some of their newfound income to add add-on support and an optional 4K texture pack for the PCMR.

I wonder what the chances are of Microsoft doing something where they pay our sub costs if we get the Live/Game Pass service bundle... hey I can dream right? =P

I'm excited that more people will have the option to play the game now.
Xbox itself for all the clout it gets actually do make the more powerful systems so I wouldn't worry too much on Xbox limitations since they were rushing out HDMI support for the 360 first and also made the One X which is THE most powerful console on the market currently.
I would be worried more if a Nintendo Switch port of XIV was made as SE would have to develop the game with that in mind being the lowest common denominator. That's a big reason why the current Switch version of Overwatch is really bad, since the System itself still isn't as powerful as the PS4 or Xbox One since Nintendo is usually behind a generation.
I'm glad Microsoft is embracing the Japanese series so much more. So much love from Namco Bandai lately with Code Vein, the Dragonball games(especially the world debut of Fighters at their conference) and of course PSO2 finally coming over here from Sega. It's like a revolution of the old OG Xbox days in terms of content.

It won't be as big as you think, but Xbox already has made exceptions for this with FFXI and ESO (before it went FTP)

ESO went FTP a couple of months before it was on console.
I’m not familiar with Xbox but is the silver-level online service still a thing? I know that Yoshi said that players having to pay both the gold sub and the FFXIV sub was one of the reasons it’s not a thing.
Then on top of that, last we heard from SE on the topic, Microsoft wanted the option to give their players separate servers and chat tools which was a big nope from SE. That’s still a bit strange that they were pushing for that considering Phil is the guy who is all for cross-play.
I don’t see SE budging on the above things so it’s completely up to Microsoft to play nice but as I said before, I’ll believe it’s coming to Xbox when SE says it is.
Hold it back from what? PS4 support isn't likely to go away for at least a couple years, just as they didn't drop ps3 support the moment the ps4 launched. Unless the x box 1 is somehow greatly inferior to the ps4 I don't really see it being an additional limitation, because even when ps5 version comes out they're not going to drop ps4 support for a while anyway.Xbox one limitations, please look forward to it.
Really though, we have ps5 already announced and Xbox will probably follow suit, why release the game on a dying console that is just inevitably gonna hold the game back? Just wait and release it on the next gen console.
This will flop if Microsoft requires players to order Xbox Live subscriptions...and then pay for FFXIV. Essentially paying for two subscriptions. At least with Sony’s PS4, a PS Plus subscription isn’t required to play FFXIV.

XI on the 360 did not require a live subscription, it only required a XI sub. So it's best to say they'll be doing it like that especially since Playstation has made it the norm.
This is great news! My GF doesn’t have a decent laptop to run FF14 on, so a Xbox release would be good for her!
