Has anyone tried to complete fate as gatherer? Do you also get rewards?

The Ishgard re-build appears to be script turn ins combined with a separate fate which has you and other players building once enough script turn ins have occurred server wide to fill up the materials gauge to 100%.
For players wanting to get started you will need to gather or purchase the new materials yourself (ignore what NPC says about the materials being provided since that is for the 2nd phase with the fate not the initial script turn in phase). The Ishgard rebuild materials that can be gathered are tradeable so gatherers can make some decent gil (the mats sometimes have multiple items per attempt e.g. 8+ and are quick gatherable) if they prefer that over any of the script reward items.
What I wonder is, when people want to start in a few months, will the starting quest even be still there as there is nothing left to rebuild?

From what everyone's been saying it sounds like it might not even be there when we get home from work.
Would have preferred something that was a bit more like the Doman Enclave and available for everyone, but I do know that a lot of people miss sort of old-school MMO events that actually have an effect on the world too.
And because of the cross-server ability, I can't even get in to finish the opening quest as the fate is going on and it's too congested. Very poorly thought out.I find it strange that the devs are concerned about players blitzing through the Main Scenario dungeons so much that they made the cutscenes unskippable...but then implement a system like this. A player could accept the quest to help restore Ishgard...only to see that everything's been built already.
I recorded the fate.

It's very underwhelming.

Yeah, the content that has 10+ hour time gating per step and wont fully be implemented for several more months is going to be over this afternoon, you should rush home quickly Mr. Fogg. From what everyone's been saying it sounds like it might not even be there when we get home from work.
My concern is that it doesn't turn into what happened with building spires and druid rings in EverQuest 2. Servers had so many people doing it, some were done in 3 days. So lots of people never got a chance to participate.
I hope they stretch it out, meaning there is a limit what can be done each day. So far the biggest issue is the instance being locked down because too full, and people hopping servers because of it filling THOSE up.
When I started playing this game, it took me about 2 years to get to 3.0, playing at my own pace, enjoying all the ARR content available before buying the expansion.
So what I'm inferring from your sarcasm here is that, had I only recently started playing this game, in fact, yes, this content will be over long before I would have reached the ability to participate.
Personally, I don't make a mad dash to all the latest newest shiniest content. So, bit disappointing to hear that the experience will be intrinsically different for me than it is for everyone jumping in immediately.
On the other hand, it didn't really bother me any to know Mor Dhona was progressively built up (by the devs) to what it is now, and I'll never see what those progression stages were like. So, can't say I'll genuinely be all that put out by this. Ultimately... even if this is the case, maybe for the best. The game could probably stand to have more of these occasional server-wide things for that proper MMO feeling.
