    Bye.
Mentor system was broken and you know it. The fact that you'd make a rage quit post like a child tells me that you were part of why it was broken. Something needed to be done.

The main gripe I have with this is that commendations are not really a way of gauging whether you are a helpful person at all. I've been leveling a tank recently, and I've received a lot of comms even for times I don't think I deserved them (screwing up due to new tank inexperience), on the other hand, I've gone as healer or DPS and saved parties at pivotal points in a dungeon/raid and received 0 comms. Comms are just so randomly appointed that I don't think they should count for mentor status. Couldn't they introduce some method where it shows how many times you have helped sprouts/returners/other players with content somehow? It just seems like to be a battle mentor now you need to win a popularity contest.

For those who talk about the "shame" of wearing the crown. I've never been ashamed of mine. I see it as a symbol that people can come to me for assistance and I'll do my best to help them out with whatever they need.

I've been a battle mentor since the inception of the program, but I won't be due to the new changes. I just don't get enough time to play these days to rack up enough comms. I'll still keep helping people regardless of the crown or not. It just might make it harder to find people to help once I'm locked out.

Two ideas I remember seeing are these:
    1) Have people earn special "mentor commendations", so to speak - something handed out by other players the same way as commendations, but seperate from them. You'd either need to earn a certain amount of them to even become a mentor OR earn a certain amount in a given timeframe to stay a mentor. Players would be asked to give out those commendations to people who they think should be mentors.
What if there was a tab added to the Party Finder thing where people could advertise for help? People who accepted the tasks would earn a certain number of "Mentor Points" at the end of the task. They could be things like helping with MSQ or even helping with quests. I guess you could just join the party with that person who had flagged something specific, and when that quest was completed you would be awarded the points.

Then you would get points for ACTUALLY helping people - which seems to be the point to being a Mentor in the first place.

Honestly, looking at threads like this I feel this new requirement is working out really well: Everyone who complained in the fashion the OP did so far was probably not all that intrested in being a good mentor to begin with, since thats something you can be without that little crown next to your name. Those who lost their crown, but arent upset about it and just accept it are probably not that invested in proper mentoring aswell.
And those who are working to get it back and are queueing solo instead of with friends to increase their chances are filling up queues.

If you want to keep mentoring, you can do that - you dont need the crown for that.
Nah, I think that's fair comment. I think it is a difficult one to measure fairly. Hopefully it does have the effect of reducing toxic & crappy mentors but I see toxic & crappy people having more than 1,500 comms because they could genuinely be good at playing their job and following mechanics, they may be capable of pulling off carries that have the party comm them, but have the worst possible attitude when it comes to people learning and being new to content, such as a "gitgud" attitude or having the view that everything is easy and proceed to berate somebody who's finding it difficult, which as all things I'd argue are bad to have in a mentor when the point of a mentor is to aid those who are new to the game, those who are finding things more difficult or need help getting to grips with something.

The change won't affect how I'm helping people and I might be able to make up the difference but just queueing solo more and on a single character, but I was sincere when I meant for me it's not important as I help people because I want to help and not to justify a crown, so I doubt I will.

I just don't think it's a fair requirement or one that helps fulfill its purpose, because I don't think it'll really address the problem (time will tell, of course) and only weed out some of the bad mentors whilst gatekeeping perfectly decent mentors from getting recognition. Naturally, I hope I'm wrong and that crappy mentors are mostly sub 1,500 comms and don't care enough to try and farm the comms they need. I just think the crown is more of an ego thing, which means those who have an ego to satisfy will be the ones to try and get it.

Maybe a solution could be found in the middle: "Commend for Mentor Status", I'm not sure how viable or effective it'd be, but a thought at least. Then have a number of mentor comms needed to acquire the status. [edit] I see from the person who quoted you above, you've already made this suggestion lol. In which case, yeah, fair, I agree.

Or people would just "ask for help" to grind out the points.

You need a crown next to your name ? are you the king ? It's pointless, I've met scrubs who have performed better than mentors, it has zero bearing on anything.

being a mentor has nothing to do how well you do in combat, it'a about helping people.

Every person in this thread who's being all like "you don't need a crown to help people" is completely missing the point, btw.

Just because you think having mentor status is 100% about Helping People doesn't mean everyone else sees it the same way. Whether you agree with them doing it or not, SE put other incentives into the mentor system, and there are people whose primary interest is getting those incentives. That's just how it is sometimes with obtainable things in video games.

If you don't have 1500 comms then you haven't put all that much time into playing the battle system. Do more dungeons and be a cool helpful person to get those comms.

Don't care about having the icon, I don't even really care about getting a mount.
The only 'benefit' I get fron the mentor system is access to the novice network

I can help people with general game questions.
Or point them to where they can find the answer.

Last I checked, I had about 1,600 commendations.
I haven't gotten any combat jobs up to 80 yet though.

But I'm satisfied with just trade mentorship.
I can still assist with general knowledge with it.
