It is a little unfair how it's against the rules to help other players and they're forbidden from asking you any in-game advice related to instances or combat unless you have that crown over your head.
... Oh wait.

You don’t need a crown to mentor other players. If you care this much about the crown, are you certain that what you care about is actually helping other people and not about having a status symbol?
Mentor players without the crown—it’s not as if you need the crown’s permission to help people. And you’re not entitled to mentorship simply because you’ve subscribed to the game for 2 years. Your money pays for access to the game, but it doesn’t guarantee you any of the “extras” found within. Those are all earned. Go earn the commendation requirement like everyone else has had to do.

I renewed mine bc I want the mount. I have had it turned off since mentors came out bc I didn't want to wear the icon of shame. Never stopped me from helping ppl. And I have never been in the novice network, either.

OP is the perfect example of why the mentor system should be deleted from NA servers.

There are a lot less crowns running around since last tuesday. And the remaining ones are mostly trade mentors. I’m glad SE made this necessary change, but with theDoH/DoL XP boost, I’m afraid we’ll be back to normal very soon.

I mean, I have around 4800 coms, so 1500 coms seems pretty reasonable to me.

To be a mentor you need to have a Tank, a Healer, and a DPS at cap. By doing your job correctly while levelling these three roles, you could probably get half of the comms needed to qualify. I'm closing in on 4k without really trying just by... being decent at my roles. Ask your healer if they're comfortable with big pulls, and use your cooldowns correctly if they are. Keep your party alive and help with DPS, use your buffs correctly and AoE during large pulls: people will notice and comm.
1.5k comms is laughably easy if you're actually DoW/DoM mentor material. I actually DIDN'T qualify for DoH/DoL because I haven't done 300 collectables. And I know that's on me, because I didn't care for collectables until late in SB, and I know I'm not in any position to actually mentor someone in crafting OR gathering. But I DO know my battle jobs and mechanics, and while higher comms don't equal higher skill, it does mean I'm experienced enough to guide a newbie through them.
And yes, the crown icon doesn't even mean the player will help, sometimes I've been too tired and can't be bothered, sometimes I've seen people without the crown give better advice or remember mechanics better than I do. So if you really want to be a PvE mentor, work for it and don't let the crown define you. Otherwise you were never meant to be one.

And still too easy, it should be way harder to obtain Mentor Status, most mentors completly ignores the purpose of that, don't know anything about what they are mentoring for and use crowns only for Novice Network Access or Aesthetics.
"...You don't respect how much time and effort I have put into the game so far. You don't respect that I have been a mentor for over 2 years..."
That's not about "respect", you had been Mentor for over 2 years and still don't have 1500 Commendations?, well, just meet the requiriments instead stand doing nothing all day. I have 6636 Commendations and i had many hiatus playing the game.
I met so many toxic mentors I've lost faith and tired of them. It's okay to not have any crowns.
To be fair, the 1500 commendations requirement is complete BS. Number of commendations is not a meaningful measurement of anything. For the most part, tanks and healers get comms and DPS don't. As a healer main I have more comms than I know what to do with, but I know people who have been playing for years and have less than 500 simply because they main a DPS. Honestly I think the commendation requirement should be removed altogether.
(Really I think the whole system is stupid and should be removed entirely, for many of the reasons mentioned above, but that's a separate issue.)
