I think that's a pleasant thing the XIV can give us that does make sense not only in gameplay but in the lore. Remember the days when we would watch a cutscene play out and have no involvement with it past seeing it happen? Now we actually have more chances to play as our favorite characters and see how it is actively in their eyes.
The Thancred fight for example was really cool seeing how Thancred was losing control in the middle of it and had to regain his composure. A cutscene will tell us one thing but being there as him in the fight itself is a whole new level of expression.
We can complain about some things but based on this recent patch and them taking care of the Hien instance, it does seem like they want to give us more and make them better.
Add in that with more characters including new ones to anti-heros like Gauis/Estinien we can have chances to play as people we would never dream of prior. New ways to experience the story and a chance to let players see how the other jobs do handle.
I'm sure for many people they would have NEVER experienced how it was healing if the Yshtola roleplay fight wasn't there. Same as people not knowing how it is to Tank doing the Thancred fight.
