I mean, that's the point of the echo...
I think that's a pleasant thing the XIV can give us that does make sense not only in gameplay but in the lore. Remember the days when we would watch a cutscene play out and have no involvement with it past seeing it happen? Now we actually have more chances to play as our favorite characters and see how it is actively in their eyes.

The Thancred fight for example was really cool seeing how Thancred was losing control in the middle of it and had to regain his composure. A cutscene will tell us one thing but being there as him in the fight itself is a whole new level of expression.

We can complain about some things but based on this recent patch and them taking care of the Hien instance, it does seem like they want to give us more and make them better.

Add in that with more characters including new ones to anti-heros like Gauis/Estinien we can have chances to play as people we would never dream of prior. New ways to experience the story and a chance to let players see how the other jobs do handle.

I'm sure for many people they would have NEVER experienced how it was healing if the Yshtola roleplay fight wasn't there. Same as people not knowing how it is to Tank doing the Thancred fight.

I enjoy them, it beats watching a super long cutscene, especially when you get stuff like really fancy limit break cutscenes or just cool stuff like that in general.

My only qualm are if they add gimmicky one shot mechanics that are hard to figure out first try, and that forces you to start all over from the beginning.

That is to say they shouldn't be super easy or super challenging, but there shouldn't be anything likely to send someone packing back to the start of the cutscene sequence because they couldn't figure it out fast enough on the first try.

Also, I wish they would give us more actions to use, it's kind of boring being stuck with only 3 or 4 buttons when it would be more fun to mess with 5-8 or something in that range.

Maybe it's just me but I think it would be more engaging playing as another character if said characters had an actual rotation beyond spamming 1 and then hitting 3 other skills off cooldown.

I'd rather play than just watch a cutscene. I just wish that I can move the actions to the left of the crosshotbar as I use my left hand.

I think the idea is to get people out of their comfort zone. Say you're a melee main, for example, the Y'shtola instance in Stormblood puts you on a healer/caster.

Trouble is... The skills we get are so barebones that they might as well not... They really need to up the skill count on these instances, and do more to show us things these characters can do that we cannot. Right now that is not achieved through gameplay, it's all cutscene driven at the end of these Roleplay battles. If it's a static battle, give them an interesting rotation. If it's more of a dungeon? Give them unique ways of tackling it. We just walk down a corridor, even as a Dragoon, but perhaps Estinien can vault over obstacles and such? Let them do things we can't, then it's interesting to play as them. Having them do less than we do? That's incredibly dull.

If you'e dying, you're both standing in easily avoidable AoEs, and not spamming Ala Morn which you should be. The skill heals you for slightly more damage than the auto attacks. It's right on the tooltip.

Drachenlance is a dot. Keep it on the boss. Use Stardiver on cooldown. When adds are up, use Horrid Roar (the game even tells you to do this). Spend all the other time spamming Ala Morn, which is about 90% of the encounter.

The Limit break is on the bar the entire time, it's simply not usable until the boss goes invulnerable.

It does not need a nerf. It needs you to pay attention to the tools they give you.

When I got this last one I literally cussed at my screen, but then it was quick and easy and I was ok with it. They are only really bad when they are needlessly tedious, like the Thancred one from 5.0, which dragged on way too long. These quick and easy ones add a lil flavor tho that's not bad imo

Button 1: Your main combo. Spam this on the boss.
Button 2: Your DoT. Use it once every 15s on the boss.
Button 3+4: Your AoEs. They are on a 6s GCD so just alternate them as a combo. These have a huge range of 40y and 80y, so keep the boss targeted and just use them whenever the boss summons adds. No need to target anything but the boss.
Button 5: Limit Break. Use it immediately upon becoming available. It doesn't do damage, but it will instantly put you into a cutscene that finishes the fight.

As for the OPs request, please no. I quite enjoy these mini-battles. I wish there were more of them.

I'll agree that Thancred vs. Ranjit was painfully slow but I enjoyed playing as Estinien, and overall I enjoy the role play instances. Running around the Imperial palace (maybe a future dungeon?) in the lead up was neat.

This one wasn't bad, but some of the previous ones were unbearable, such as:

Thancred vs Ramjet - You have 4 buttons, have to dodge the same 3 mechanics spammed by the boss, for 15 minutes because your weapons is a pool noodle and he's a BAMF.
