I was specifically waiting for 5.1 for diadem to be revitalized. They hadn't mentioned anything before about removing achievements (and thus content). I thought they would be adding things, maybe making it easier to enter. This is ridiculous. Garo got like 4 lodestone posts in 6 months to warn!
The only hint about this was the live letter, all previous mentions of diadem were in interviews and only said it would be used for ishgard restoration somehow.
Some of us thought it meant using more diadem-easily-gathered-items in crafting recipes. The only hint was the most recent PLL (a week ago!) about "reworking into a gathering island". Since you could already gather, it was weird that it would need to be reworked. That's not straightforward and still wouldn't have been enough time!

I want to add my voice in as someone who Is very saddened and disappointed by the seeming afterthought communication by SE about the Diadem changes. I find it very sad they are removing current Diadem fully. I love Diadem but only have gotten to experience it recently as a new player to the game. Mostly I am very disappointed in the lack of notice that they were fully removing the achievements with only a few days for people to try to complete them (*almost* impossible to do).

It's funny how much people hated the diadem, until it goes away.

It's not so much that it's going away though that's some of it it's more of a 3 days 4 days before the patch and were removing all this this etc and It's like, thanks for the last minute notification.
I'm really disappointed by this decision. I understand the need to move on, reallocate resources, etc. What I don't understand is the lack of notice. Since I started playing 3 years ago, and learned of the 1.0 history, I also learned that the strength of A Realm Reborn, and the continued success of this game, were in no small part due to the high level of communication between the devs and the players.
This is why this change doesn't make sense. There was no communication whatsoever prior to the release of the preliminary patch notes that such a drastic change was being made. We knew crafting changes were coming. We knew housing was coming. We knew job adjustments were coming. We did not know all of the achievements were being yanked from Diadem.
Very disappointed.

I still hate it.
But completing the achievments is a whole different story. That has nothing to do with the question if the Diadem was good content or not, it's a completionist thing. I just thought... I would do it later... >.>

As someone who has been hunting achievements for a long time, I'm also upset with this choice.
Between the transition from 1.0 to 2.0, they released a list of achievements that would no longer be obtainable in 2.0+, BUT then they made the quarrying and harvest achievements unobtainable after they were not included on the list, AND quarrying and harvesting nodes were still in the game at the launch of 2.0! I WILL NEVER FORGET... I'm still upset about that too.
I'd also like to see a revival of the achievements there were logically unavailable at the launch of 2.0, but have no reason to be excluded now that some of the stuff from 1.0 has been added back in, like spearfishing achievements and the achievements for collecting gil from slain enemies, now that dungeon enemies drop gil again.
I 100% agree. I feel more aggrieved about the complete lack of communication from the Developers on this important change than I do about the change in-and-of-itself. I mean, if we were made aware that the Devs were outright removing the Diadem content altogether, it would have been acceptable if they had given us sufficient notice (as they did with the Garo event) months in advance, so we could have adequate opportunity, to get all the things we wanted to achieve from the Diadems complete and fulfilled. As it stands right now, the Diadems are being removed, and the only notice is a vague idea of the implications regarding the removal of the related achievements, and, by extension, the earnable rewards as well. And - all of this - at the 11th hour, just a few days prior to patch day....What I don't understand is the lack of notice. ... and the continued success of this game, were in no small part due to the high level of communication between the devs and the players.
This is why this change doesn't make sense. There was no communication whatsoever prior to the release of the preliminary patch notes that such a drastic change was being made.
Had we been made aware of this change months - or even just a few weeks ago - it would have given us players, who were interested in the Diadem achievements and items, enough time to organize DF raids / FC airship runs, the opportunity to do so.
It's probably too late to ask for a deferral / delay of this one change, so in lieu of that ...
Can we please get an official Dev / GM response for more information about the removal of Exploratory Voyages (Diadem), whether or not this will also impact FC Airship deployments for Exploratory Missions: Diadem - Trials of the Fury? ... Diadem - Trials of the Matron? ... both? ... How will this impact the materials that are only found via gathering nodes within the Diadem - Trials of the Matron? ... Will the Diadems return at a later date? ... If so, when or at what planned patch release, and in what form will they take, and would there be an update to the level or iLvl restrictions - if any? ... What are the implications of earning the items available from the Spoils Collector (i.e. Pegasus mount / minion, the Sky Pirate's gear sets, crafting materials, etc)? ... Will they become obtainable via other means (i.e NPC vendors, yellow scrips, gil, tokens of another sort), and what is the plan moving forward into - and after - patch 5.1?
