I just find it bad too that we dont at least get a full english translation. Yes fan sites translate it but in the past there has always been some mistakes in some of these translations which then might mean that people have the wrong information on something. (Like the last one where reddit said that we wont get the other hair for Viera and a poster here on the forum said that in his translation Yoshida said that we will get the older hair but changed for Viera) Thus an official translation that Yoshida also overlooked once to see if everything is fine would be miles better.

Also not sure why some are saying that its fine for it being JP only since its in their country. When they are outside of it, for example at the different fanfests, then they will still speak japenese and might have a translator with them. If we take the logic from some shouldnt they kinda talk in the language of the country then? And not provide a japanese version of it?

Purely hypothetically speaking, let's pretend Yoshida spoke full English and hosted a LL in New York. There were no Japanese translations from SE themselves. Do you think the JP community would be fine with that or would they be complaining how it's clearly American bias showing? Considering they have actually accused the dev team of listening to NA more than them in the past, I think we can safely assume they wouldn't appreciate it.

So why does this excuse work when the scenario is flipped? Keep in mind, people aren't faulting Yoshida or any of the dev team. They're pointing to Square Enix, a multi-billion dollar company, not wanting to spend the money to have a translator.

Are you KIDDING me? I know that this site has many sycophants for SE, but this is outrageous. You PAY for this game... you know... with MONEY? They are talking about a major update to game that you play each month for a subscription. This is important information for you to decide whether or not you will CONTINUE to SUBSCRIBE and pay for this service. If you don't have the information to make that decision, how can you decide whether to sub or not?

Are you serious? This is a AAA multi billiondollar corporation. They for damn sure have the money to pay for a translator. They KNOW that English / EU players are going to be wanting this information. They had a translator for the expansion Live Letter / Event... why not now, if there is a major patch? It's a sick, and disgusting world when the PLAYERS are being called LAZY for the AAA corporation's failure to provide adequate means to obtain information about their product. It's not on the FANS to translate, it's on SE. Period. Full stop.

I don't think it's unreasonable to be frustrated that we have to fan translate an update for an internationally released and maintained game with patches that are not staggered (except in select regions).

Hyperbole much? Jesus. They said in the announcement for the live letter that the audio would be in Japanese only, and Reddit did a fine job translating in real time. But I guess if not having a translator for the first of 2 LL's on 5.1 is such a high crime and misdemeanor, maybe you should just protest with your wallet and save yourself the agony of having to read text instead of hearing it live.

The PLL was present at Tokyo Game Show, in Japan, where people mainly speak Japanese. While the game itself stretches across the world Japan is the main audience so they're going to speak plainly to them first and foremost. I am surprised they didn't have Matt and Koji doing the on the fly translations in a seperate stream but I'm relating to it not being at a Fanfest so not everyone was there. It's annoying but keep in mind a vast majority of games shown off including Guilty Gear had the same treatment, and Guilty Gear is a BIG success in the West.

There was much more conversation in this PLL due to the Saito/Taro interview, but thankfully through Twitch (in the English chat) and the FFXIV Subreddit both were offering translations for the events. Both the big things and also the funny moments too.

I get the frustration for them not providing it, but considering the show, the planned events, it was probably a time saving option to have them forego a translator in the PLL as they almost went over in time during the interview. Translating the conversation live as well in a different stream would probably lead to Koji getting some details but being caught up in delivering that he may miss four or five more quick lines they throw out. People still would have complained regardless I'm sure.

The big takeaway for me from this whole thing is that if they aren't gonna provide the detailed translations someone in the community will. The twitch user in the English chat was an absolute hero as they were getting them out before the subreddit so it was like hearing the convos in real time. They also translated Yoko Taro's comments which were absolute gold.

100% agree with the OP. When the majority of your players are English speakers, and you decide not to provide an English translation, it comes off as incredibly disrespectful.

I love S-E, fan for life, but these decisions are very unsettling.

As I've said before, which has long been drowned out. There are other sources for translations, but people don't read and expect what they want to be delivered with a bow. The slides had English and JP. That's what mattered.Translations for the vital stuff is what was given. The side chatter and Taro talking about how healer gear is ugly was not vital for those who only wanted gameplay related things. Having translations for the side chatter would have been nice, but- it's not vital.

Which is technically the point of contention. And why since a long while I have been partisan of just dropping live letters and do the content in a more "Nintendo Direct" Format with actual details instead of 3 hrs of ambiguous banter with very few things disclosed because its spoiler/surprise/secret/shenanigans. Even more so if its condition seems to be "Yoshi has to say it".

I do appreciate the people who go out of their way to translate as much as they do, but you'd think SE would put a bit more effort in the translation/summary being available sooner, if not dev blogs with hints.

I’m ok with them conducting it in Japanese only but in that case there should have been an English translation posted here on the forums immediately after or during. I don’t care if it was on Saturday, in the real world people work on weekends.
