One thing that is universal across fantastical work I have seen, is long lived races don't breed that much. Viis probably see no need to heavily populate, with lifespans as long as theirs they probably don't need to do it often, granted they have said their numbers are low. There are a lot Viis (females) who have left the wood however.

I like Josh Holloway as one possible inspiration for their faces:

It's likely that the males who are alive now are from the same stock, they were originally part of the children who survived the flood. So what happened where the handful of confirmed males to be alive in the Rat'tika don't wish to father children. Part of me thinks that their own survival isn't seen as important as doing their sacred duty. Now that those things have calmed down then the males probably have more time to visit the villages and not constantly be on patrol like they seem to be now. But even then, it takes more than a handful of men to repopulate. I guess it's a good thing they live for 300+ years.
Exactly, sin eaters are gone and it should make revitalizing their community the next thing to focus on.

We will probably learn more when we head back there since well the viis and Rak tika is pretty much Au ra and Azime steppe of ShB

And Yshtola says she will need our help soon if you talk to her after shb msq

Oh I know (even though I wonder if we ever get an answer to that) but its imo nice to maybe debate something like that, especially when the thread itself just goes in circles anyway.

I just wonder if that in a way means that the "pure" Viis will be death somewhere in the future because of the low amount of males, or if its enough. Its also interesting that they did state in the german version that Lyna lost her "parents" so at least there she seemingly also had a father. Of course this could still just mean that he died in the forest, or maybe Viis can reproduce with other races...that would at least save the females, RIP males I guess.

Well that could of course be a reason yet they are not one of the races that gets really old. With something around 300 years they can be like 3 times more older than certain other races in this game.

(And lets not talk about female Hrothgars...them being the rare part in the race makes it even worse..)

I'm just interested in how they go about it. One of the few explanations in the game I wish to hear about, but also don't want to waste the question on asking Yoshida. Another question I have is how come the Vii are all 'Veena' - and live where the Rava are supposed to be. In fact, I don't remember one single Rava in the whole of Shadow Bringers. Does anyone else recall seeing a Rava in the first? Part of me thinks I must have seen one, I swear there was one with a greyish skin tone - but that also could have been the 'darkest' Veena.

So, where are all the Rava?

Actually most Viis in ShB are Rava the rarer ones are the Veena but they do exist there is a questline where one is dealing with a pair of twins and their conflicting interests. This is all probably due to the fact the flood of light forced the Veena away from their more mountainous climes to seek shelter in the wood and as thanks took up the mantle to protect the Ronkan ruins. There most likely the same sort of distribution for Veena males too so the Veena have a greater chance to become an extinct clan than the Rava at this point.

I believe there was less The lost Ronso than there were Veena Viis in ShB

I thought they were 'Rava' but then it brought the question up on why all of the Rava aren't the darker skin tone. The one talking to the twins (the priestess) who I thought to be a Rava - also has the light skin. I thought this was due to lack of sunlight or something, or them just hiding underneath the thicket of the trees. But the Rava in FF12 also have this where Golmore jungle is extremely thick in regards to the treetop. It was very confusing for me. Like, haha, what was the reason for the Rava there to be light-skinned? Just putting forward this isn't something where I'm upset, or racist because I highly doubt that was the reason. I'm just ??? yo, why is the Rava that is known for the darker skin tone not actually dark in ShB and can easily be confused for a Veena, and can only be told apart due to the 'on point' eyebrows. There has to be some sort of reasoning for why they decided to do this for both races.

Time to be lame as heck and check every single settlement to see if there's an actual Rava that has a tone that is similar/close to Frans. And see if there's any of the 'Lost' - perhaps it's a cultural thing, where Rava and Veena don't actually exist in the first. And neither do the lost.
