Here's hoping they still have plans for private/LS owned companies... the prospect of LS buildings and ships was one of the main exciting features of this game and everytime I mentioned it to friends they all said they would play if they had something like that in the game, done properly of course.

I think you'll be let down. From the latest interviews it seems like companies might be led by NPCs. They may be nothing more than glorified Class Guilds. That might not be a bad thing if interesting mechanics and content are part of this system.
