Why on EARTH would you leave this awful long cutscene in E1 Savage?

Innocence Transformance/Prestage was cut from EX, so I hoped they would remove this scene too.

You're regening HP and MP during it. It's a nice breathing space for healers, and means we can save a use of Lucid Dreaming.

If you're pushing a 50+ wipes, I can see such a cutscene getting old quickly.
Shouldn't be the case for the first savage though.

Why does this need to be here? It has long, long lost its novelty in normal mode - I thought for sure they'd take it out, similar to the Halicarnassus sand trap.

Because they designed it as a semi-phase transition. You'll take full damage as buffs run out and your cooldowns will *mostly* be back up.
