He is probably the perfect villain for FFXIV yes, he is powerfull, maniac, crazy and nothing could stop him. He can't love anyone but himself or the WoL now, I guess...

But I can't help, I'm not that happy to see him back so early. His story is boring, he just want to hunt you and will kill everything in his way to do it. Just being bad to be bad is annoying. I would prefer to save Emet-Selch and Ascian's world in another timeline first if it was possible. Sadly, I guess we won't stop to kill Ascians...

I do agree with you, but I also think he underestimates what telling Zenos to go wreck stuff means.

I'm trying to think of the best way to put this lol... basically, I think Emet-Selch dying/the First being saved would be like Elidibus being stabbed. He's pretty upset about being stabbed and thinks things can't possibly get worse. Except then he basically gives the knife to Zenos, and Zenos is someone liable to twist it.

I don't think he realizes that things can still get worse. Zenos is very much worse, now potentially on a cosmic scale beyond all reckoning for everyone.

All that said, I suspect that if there's any saving grace to be found for Elidibus it's probably with Unukalhai. And even if that's not the case, I'm veeeeeery curious how Unukalhai is going to tie into future events.

The problem with having Emel is that now everyone wants an equal development for all the villains which seems to me a mistake. If you need villains like Zenos in the plot since are taking the same steps as Kekfa in FFVI.

In SB I found Zenos lacking though even compared to prior villains. Thordan, Ilberd and Nidhogg weren't as fleshed out as Emet-Selch yet I liked them far more than Zenos in 4.0. I just don't find Zenos interesting as a character, and as a THREAT he fell flat because his first two boss fights weren't threatening or difficult they were just easy duels with inflated health pools and predecided 'you lose' points in the fights. That along with there never being tangible consequences for losing to him kind of hampered any potential he had on just being menacing.

Kefka poisoned Doma, killed General Leo, killed Gehstalh and wrecked the world. It took Zenos until the end of 5.0 to do anything of consequence.

Personally, I hope Zenos is killed by anyone other then the WoL as that would be the biggest insult to him. And it would probably be a relief for the WoL that they do not have to face him yet again...

As for who could do the job... Gaius has five Ascian masks and he knows Zenos hopped bodies. Finding out how he's been killing Ascians by him killing Zenos would be amazing irony.

While I can understand people not liking his personality, these are my thoughts and introspections on his character and what it means going forward from 5.0. Zenos has a lot of untapped potential, and with what I said he has a lot riding on him.

Regardless on what people think of Zenos, he's still bound to lead the story, and it's gonna be the most important part considering how good 5.0 is and how it'll progress. The table is set, and Zenos, as I said, is the Wild Card right now.

Didn't some version of Transformers end with Bumblebee and not Optimus beating Megatron? A turnaround like that could be interesting, imagine if he was undone by Tataru's untimely intervention or something. Not that I think that's what's going to happen but would be more interesting than just escalating Zenos and WOL powerlevels for a shoenen rematch.

I really like Zenos as a primary villain, and I'm glad he has followed us out of Stormblood. Prior to Emet-Selch, I thought Zenos was one of the most effective villains we've had in the FF series, but SB didn't give him enough of a chance to shine.

I agree about him being our antithesis, and I think that's part of what makes him great. We can have great tragic villains like Emet-Selch and still have room for 100% evil villains. I know a lot of people think the black and white evil villains are boring, but his motives are more than just the "I'm evil, and I want to take over the world." I am excited about his future character arc, although, I think Emet-Selch should have been in the spotlight longer with Zenos being more of a background threat for a while.

I'm wondering what his involvement will be with the First, if any. Since he has the fake echo, does this mean he could theoretically travel over to the First?

I don't have anything against 100% evil villains. I like me some Emperor Palpatine and Kefka. But for me at least, Zenos is neither threatening for the reasons I listed before, nor is he entertaining.

So basically we have a bored warrior who really loves fights, but can't actually die. I've already seen this character in FGO. This is not the type of character that can carry an interesting plot on their own as a main antagonist.
