I thought so. Originally there weren't meant to be male Viera lol Lore books practically cover plot holes like, "How would they reproduce?" and the likes of it.
I did hear that they wanted to include male viera in FFXII, but they either did not have the time or the resources. Well, more specifically, I've heard this from people in this thread. I don't have any sources for that.
All of this is irrelevant, though. It has been confirmed male viera exist in FFXIV, so whether they exist in FFXII or not doesn't matter anymore.

Yeah, as I was saying, I'm not against implementation. It's just they basically made the lore so that there wouldn't be a problem genderlocking.I did hear that they wanted to include male viera in FFXII, but they either did not have the time or the resources. And all this "lore" was created then and there during Stormblood, so there's no basis to what kind of tribe they are or whatever until they give us more infromation during or after Shadowbringers.
I am pretty much against male Vieras. If they include male Viera in the game they should only be allowed to level crafting and gathering jobs.

Also, just a reminder, that first artwork of Male Viera holding a spear was actually used to create male Au Ra body.
Looking a bit more muscley in the art work is just what it is. If you take a good look at official artworks and compare it to actual in-game races,
their proportions look nothing alike, although this may be an exaggeration.
Take a look at this artwork of the first few races for example.
So this:
would pretty much look like this in-game:

It depends on your server. Popularity needs to be ignored, man. They were implemented already. No point bringing it up.
Why? That's their lore role in viera society.
For me it ultimately depends on if the dev team can handle the additional race. I would have preferred we gotten one race or the other with both genders, regardless of which of the two that would have meant getting. But I can at least understand the reasoning behind the split.
I'd love for male viera and female hrothgar to be made playable. While I wouldn't play them myself, as a RPer I'd love to have the options open to other people. But it all depends on if it can be done without overly taxing the dev team's resources.
