The stigma is there for a reason. More often than not people wear the crow because "looks cool". You can become a mentor, helps others and still don't use it. Honest question: why you feel the need to wear it?

In general, I don't mind mentors unless they do something extremely stupid. Like having new players in a trial and pull right away instead of giving me a few seconds to explain any non-obvious mechanic.

What I mind is the obnoxious spawn that novice networks suffer from off-topic stuff. It's not rare that new players ask how to leave it because no one explained to them how to config chat tabs.

As I said in my last post, to begin with, it was because I enjoyed being easily identified as someone you could go to for help if you were a new players or if you had a question. I do know that I don't need the crown to help people, of course, and I know many mentors abuse the system, which is saddening. I am not OK with that, I just wish things were different.

Yeah, no, the crown dosen't mean you "know what you're doing"... this guy's a joke lol

I enjoy being a mentor despite it all, but anyone can be one lately, and believe me, I know it dosen't mean you "know what you're doing". GG on the title thought. I don't have it myself and mighty respect to anyone who accomplished that lmao

This thread .... is a perfect example of why I originally took my crown off.

    The problem is two-fold.

    1) some mentors are a-holes .... but then some ppl are a-holes. they do not need a crown to be so.
    2) the community instantly assumes anyone with a crown is going to be this way, to the point where genuine mentors, no longer wish to be associated with this stereotype, and I know of plenty of people that fall into this category.

I have since hopped between no crown or put it to trade mentor, because .... I live to craft

Also, it's worth noting, if you go into mentor roul, it instantly puts the blank crown back on you, even if you have taken it off/changed it to crafting mentor. Even if you got your crown through crafting/gathering! So even if you don't want to identify as a battle mentor, and just want to go in for farming the mount, or for the tomes, or the sheer fun of running a random dungeon and helping some new ppl out, or whatever other crazy reason you have for doing it, it forces you to display the blank crown.

Mentor roulette in itself isn't bad, its excellent for filling those duties that would otherwise be an even longer waiting time, and really helps new players and progression players get their duty (i have noticed I do get matched with new players faaaaaaar more than with normal roulettes, which is how it should be) so the roulette isn't the problem, the problem is the human condition.

Another honest question: Has anyone ever asked you something outside novice network because you wear the crow? This never happens to me, from my experience people mostly use the NN or /sh in the area they happen to be at the moment.

I'm not saying don't use it, but the negative aspected associated with it are there for a reason. I personally think at the very least the icon must be changed.

It happened, thought only a few times.

I've never been personally attacked because of my crown, but I see your point, I understand. It's not that important to wear it, I get that. I just liked it for that very reason back then.
Althought now, with all the problems and controversies that comes with it, it just feels like a burden really lol

Honestly, I think the negative aspects mostly come from hyperbole. People take one sided stories as fact, and then all mentors are painted in such a bad light that it becomes the norm.

This isn’t meant at you OP, but anyone who reads this:

Respecting another persons standards and thanking them is the best way to disarm any situation. Don’t take criticism so personally. If you want a solution then I will tell you what you need to do and make it law. Otherwise it’s everyones opinions and standards against each other’s.

What do you want because your standards don't line up with mine. I demand perfection up to my level of performance. If you can’t meet that then why do I have to respect yours if you don’t respect mine? If you can’t perform the job at a demanding level then you will get fired. There is no “I” in a party you join. How pissed would you be if my standards are to only spam flash as a tank? You would be quick to call me out. Why should someone who outperforms in a dungeon be frowned upon when he tells his group to get good? He’s giving it all for his team while they’re slacking. Why are their low standers better than the one who outperforms?

The point of this is that the mentor game the newbie an ultimatum. Adjust to the games tabbing or quit. If bad words were used or attacks on the newbie we’re made then there’s a report function and a kick function. The mentor is correct because the newbie is given a task adjust or quit. Harsh, but true. A game has standards and we must adjust to them or eventually stop playing if you can’t or refuse to adjust.

Being new doesn’t give you a free pass to underperform. You signed up to the dungeon if one guy has high standards then you need to be at his level. With practice you will be there soon enough. So don’t take it so personal when you’re told to get good or quit. Learn as you go through the dungeon and respect the standard set. You might get a group who has low standards, why is that respectable vs the one with high standards?
