I don't think they'll do it, but I'd be fine if they did.
While I don't have extreme passionate views on either end of the spectrum, an interesting compromise (for this game) would be partial weeks? Maybe 3 days a week? Give them a chance to continue forward with changes and give us a little time each week to experience the changes, comment on them, see what we think? Just for a few more weeks?
i would be fine with that idea if they were still being told to conserve energy and the rolling blackouts were in the area of the hq. as a business they just want to get back to work as soon as possible because they are doing all they can to improve this game to try and get the ps3 version released and get the paying members of xi bringing income in.While I don't have extreme passionate views on either end of the spectrum, an interesting compromise (for this game) would be partial weeks? yes this is my first post. yes i'm very new to this game. just bought it on the 17th, then found out i couldn't even play, which was a bummer. but i got over it and am happily awaiting friday. don't need to be flamed for stating what is very obvious... but!
The thing that really has me confused about most of these posts is the fact you all think the final fantasy online games are the only games that SE makes. like this is their only source of income... dude they make so much money on so many other games and product sales it is not even funny. SE didn't start in online gaming. they have been around the block more then a few times. i really don't think that any of us have any idea what exactly they have on their plates. if they feel putting the game back online is the way to go then more power to them. if you don't like it, then by all means don't play. just my two cents.

If you want to help Square Enix to save money/energy first of all stop posting on a community's forum you (obviously) don't belong to. This will reduce load on the servers hosting this forum and also help to conserve powerIt might sound kind of mean for the people still playing that want it back up, but its not helping SE, especially with whats going on right now. They have to shut off AC and things just to keep the servers going, and FF14 is NOT bringing in any rev. like FFXI is/will (yes we get a free month) but XI players have been making them the money they need and pretty much funding 14 at this point.
Id much rather see them shut down a games servers that is only sucking away not only money, but energy that needs to be rationed at this point. Again its not to be mean, but there is little point when it makes them no cash, takes up electricity and so few people are playing right now.
Let them keep them down so and have them spend time working on updates, so you have something to come back to that new. SE just keep 14 off until things settle down. Everyone is in much more need of actual money (which everyone lost much of) and electricity that could be used elsewhere.
So true. FFXI fees are peanuts for SE compared with their offline game and publishing business. The thing that really has me confused about most of these posts is the fact you all think the final fantasy online games are the only games that SE makes. like this is their only source of income... dude they make so much money on so many other games and product sales it is not even funny. You seriously have no clue how things work, sorry.
If they keep the servers offline now (while getting FFXI servers up) they can forget about the future of FFXIV. It will be over and done .... Since they are not going to give up on this game anytime soon they have to get the servers up as soon as possible.
Also ... I do not get this "keep the servers down, so you can work on updates" stuff I have been seeing the last few days. It is not like the developers are going to sit on bikes to cycle their asses off to generate enough energy for the servers. What has the servers being up or down to do with upcoming updates? If the servers are offline you lose more members and important feedback from your playerbase. So please think before you post.
It is fine if they have to keep the servers offline because of the current energy problems, but if they get FFXI up they have to get FFXIV up too, otherwise they will run into trouble. It is really as simple as that.
Welcome, we need more people like you to balance this forum a bityes this is my first post. yes i'm very new to this game. just bought it on the 17th, then found out i couldn't even play, which was a bummer. but i got over it and am happily awaiting friday. don't need to be flamed for stating what is very obvious... but!

oh, come on guys. The OP is right. Profit is what makes customers happy and improves company reputation. Everyone knows this. On that basis, SE should keep the FFXIV servers off.
The OP also tells us that SE should keep the servers off so they can work on updates. We like updates don't we? We all know that devs can't work on updates while servers are on, so it's good if they're off.
Oh please, please, please keep the servers off so we can enjoy the game! [/mockery]
On a more serious note, if SE were to keep the servers off when they didn't need to I would walk away from this game and would not look back. That would just show that SE does not care about the players, and I'm sure they do. You know it's time to give up on an MMO when the company stops caring about the players.
Good job getting the servers back on within a reasonable timescale SE. 'tis much appreciated.

You don't get the point. It's exactly like Evenstar said, leaving XIV off now while XI goes back online is the worst thing they can do. It would simply mean FFXIV is out of their priority (because no income from it (yet)) and that they abandoned the remaining playerbase. Good luck to your company's next game after doing something like that, it would a deathblow.
