man I just wrote up a response to you and it got deleted because of post limit

My argument here is if lalafell are often recruits for melee positions, then muscle mass really doesn't matter in this game. The same thing applies to male viera because it's just a game. So saying they must be muscular or bulky because they live in the jungle is not necessarily true. -and if you still want to pull real life examples, we've already established jungle people are pretty slim, actually.

Aye, exactly and they more than likely don't have the body type of potatoes where you can't even see any muscle development on them. Since Viera are close to elezen/hyur in body - a little boy trained from the same age for years upon years, constantly with no rest, unlike Pippin who could still come home now and then for some rest. A male Viera can't do that, they're in constant danger and have to be on high alert for the rest of their lives, and a long life they live. There's nothing stating that the males have a shorter life span compared to the females. So males can live up to 300+ years before they even show a hint of ageing.

In the end, a soldiers life where you can go home at the end of it and sleep in a protected city or camp is nothing compared to living a nomadic life in a woodland filled with beasties, imperials and other male viera. Have to remember that the male Viera complete with themselves. For space, for prey and more than likely for the right to have children.

So... they'll likely be well built and hardened from training and battling things in the jungle.

No worries. Their descriptions just repeat that stuff word for word. If you do find a source relating to it later on, I'd be interested to know.

And there's a further factor - Pipin is in an environment where he can obtain the requisite training and equipment to become a competent gladiator; Ul'dah is not in a situation where they need all hands on deck, and even with his background, it doesn't cost the city much if he is specialised in that manner, just because someone needed a gladiator fighter. One should allow for the fact that some individuals within a group will be exceptional or different... to a point. It also doesn't cost the city much if individuals pursue career paths where Lalafell, as a race, have a harder time succeeding due to their physical limitations, and fail in the process.

Whatever genes he inherited, though, are the result of adaptive strategies his ancestors undertook, mainly by focusing on trade and disciplines leaning more onto the DoM, from what I can tell. If a group of Lalafell could avoid conflict by simply establishing trade relations, that's possibly another strategy they pursued. We can see this in their description in terms of how they handle mining.

Whether it is due to such a history of choices, or Allagan genetic engineering (unlikely given recent lore), each race has areas it is stronger in and those it is weaker in. SE kind of muddled this because they wanted the initial stat system to reflect one subrace stronger in mental attributes, and another in physical ones, but I tend to regard these kind of stat systems as meaningless, unless you have one integrated into the lore itself, like D&D's, which they never did. They also scrapped all that, anyway, so we're left with the racial descriptions as they are.

The thing about build though, there's a divide in logical/lore sense and fanservice/what makes money sense.

Female Au Ra, even with aether boosts, are incredibly disproportionate to men. Because their test audience was likely a room full of all male otaku who spend $$$ on body pillows. So we got kawaii uguu instead of equally built and tall tribal women.

But anyhow, no matter what the final decision is (when or if there's a decision), someone will pitch a fit. I think they would be a mix of Elezen and male Au Ra. Hourglass muscular figures with watermelon crushing thighs. But I know for a fact a good percent of the people in this thread wouldn't like that. I'm thinking lots of tree hopping, running, kicking and needing to be able to spring at any point. But the money starts talking and they'd have to go with something people will want the most and fanta into.

I wish they had gone with something closer to the original female Au Ra design, but it's true, money talks.

Aparently, in an interview, Yoshida specifically said that male viera's design they'll likely make is basically an elezen with a miqote face and bunny ears

    He specifically said:
'If we did create a male design for the Viera, he would be quite elegant, handsome, and slim. He would look more like the Elezen race, but with bunny ears.'

they also talk about how they have seen lots of strong feelings about the genderlock and are trying to see if ppl are upset about both, male viera or female hrotgar. They also go over other stuff as well

I honestly expect them to have the same body type as male elezen, like how the females have the exact same body as elezen, but with slightly different proportions and different heads. I would love for au ra body, but I won't really expect it
