When tanking Alliance I usually just ask at the beginning in alliance chat if anyone wants to MT. If nobody comes forward I just declare myself as MT, add a marker over my head and run with it. IMO it's the best way to ensure a smooth run without an aggro-battle and boss-spinning.
Well then. Doing Stone Vigil Hard for Zodiac items for my Paladin's relic weapon, but not tanking (playing BRD). Tank was, funnily enough, a Paladin. But Twelve forfend, their gear was a mix of level 50 green-quality items, interspersed with some of the blue-quality items you get from doing your 50 job quest. This in itself wouldn't be too bad, were they not level 67. I felt for the poor healer, who had to deal with this tank that could barely hold enmity, had all the durability of wet tissue, and seemed to like standing in the pretty coloured circles.
Thankfully, they took umbrage at the DRG for some reason, and left right as we opened the gate to the last boss.

Dragoon is love,
Dragoon is life,
Dragoon is tanking the floor
so we don't wipe.

I tanked a few alliance and normal raids roulettes and is kind of sad watch myself die very slowly while using all my CDs, trigger my living death as last resort and none of the two healers at my party do anything because they are busy spamming one skill thinking the other one will cover for them. Is particularly infuriating when both healers happen to be WHM, I don't even have any HOTs on me, both refuse to use benediction and I end being resurrected by another alliance.
Levelling roulette as DRG. Aurum Vale. Oh goodie...
Load in with a Lvl 67 DRK, Lvl 50 SCH and a BLM.
The SCH is new but exclaims that they have always disliked this dungeon, so I can assume an alt. The DRK also announces their displeasure at the sight of AV.
The DRK pulls the first three enemies. 25 secs later, the tank is on the floor, closely followed by the BLM who gets rezzed. While they are being rezzed the DRK respawns and grabs the ads as I get overwhelmed, die and respawn.
We have gone a total of 5m into the dungeon and there's already 3 deaths.
Wipe two more times before the first boss even after I attempt to explain an easy way to get to the boss room without diving into the mobs head first.
A wipe in the first boss because the healer doesn't eat the fruit, even with explanation.
A wipe at Coin counter because I failed to explain mechanics properly before the tank pulled. Explained them better the 2nd time around, but the healer still gets hit with every Eye of the Beholder and Glower in their direction and only we just cleared it with the LB
Didn't wipe at the final boss but even with a detailed explanation of the mechanics and eating the fruit the SCH was at 4 stacks when I launched the LB to make the suffering end.
The extra kicker? The tank almost never moved from their spot. For anything. Until all mobs were dead. They were standing in every AoE to every enemy.
Straight line knockback AoE? I can get heals.
Eye of the Beholder? It's just a little shock damage. No biggie.
Bad breath? Doesn't matter. Just debuffs.
100 tonne swing? Cooldowns are up. I'm good for now.
The extra extra kicker? The SCH never cast Physick or Esuna. At all. It was always Adlo or Succor even if shields were already up on everyone.
I just /hug the BLM as they have put up with the whole dungeon and they got my comm.
Walked away from that 35 minute cluster with one comm.
So this is what a being a mentor is like...

Thanks for helping make the FFXIV community a fun and welcoming place. If you're not sure you have (and you very likely have), make it a point to be patient or helpful the next time you log in so that you can know you've made a difference.
If you're on the Aether data center, congratulations! I might be your nextexciting adventurehealer in the Duty Finder. Please look forward to it.
Yesterdays roulettes inspired me to new ways to use rescue!
First up, the trials roulette - we get Garuda, not a difficult fight but apparently our MT remembered the "old days" (or just didnt remember the fight at all) and dragged her west instead of south, where 6/8 people were gathered, including some melee-dps that was now forced to use their ranged skills. All in all an annoying situation that was solved beautifully by rescuing the tank into the group doing the intermission when the adds appear. Confused the hell out of my boyfriend though that he could suddenly attack her properly again...
Second one, leveling - its Copperbell NM, but with a level 20-ish lancer who might even haven been new to the dungeon in general. We make our slow but steady way through this dreadful dungeon and reach the slime-boss.
...aaaand the lancer is having a go at the bombs - luckly he doesnt manage to kill the first one before it explodes, but still. The tank asks them to stop. They continue. I ask them nicely to not kill the bomb. Still hitting them. Hmph. Alright then... I walk over to a corner of the room and rescue the lancer mid-bomb-hitting to me. And that actually gets them to stop and leave the last bomb alone! I'm feeling a tiny bit sorry for that poor newbie, because he was probably extremly confused by this, but... last resort, sorry.

Yup, and Jump would've dealt more damage to mobs and made the dungeon run a bit smoother. Only time I'm forgiving for people not having their job stones is Haukke Manor, as that's the last dungeon you get to be mostly newbie. Next one up tends to tell you you should have your absolute bare basic knowledge of the game at that point; otherwise prepare to have your whatziz squeezed so hard till they bleed, like that one crazy lady they arrested last week in my county did to her boyfriend.
The healer and lancer called me Sleep Queen for the dungeon, that's how bad things were.
This one is beyond your help. Only sleep can save her now.
