I am kind of bummed that he won't be SMN considering Phoenix, but ah well. I really like Rogue Minfilia because of her bond with Thancred.

Again on trusts in general but I'm watching Very Merri's vid on them now and yes, not only do the characters have voiced dialogue but they can have conversations atleast in Say chat with each other, which will change based on who you bring with you.
I am curious if they may go full Dragon Age Origin party banter with this.
(Romance banter not included)
I admit as a Healer main, my first thought upon seeing Alphinaud slowly inch across the chasm was "I wonder what would happen if I Rescued him across".
They also will say things if one of them dies. The ones I've seen aren't sure if Alisaie was programed to die a lot to show that yes they will raise during a fight or if that's going to be how she normally will be. Though I did watch the party bars for part of Ethys's time with them and I saw two of them have esuna-able poison and all Alphinaud did was spam succor. They also move or try to move out of aoes so they're smarter than squads some what. Also as they seem to have been programed with their personalities it seems Minfillia will allow you time to use the Limit Break meanwhile Alisiae seems to do a very much her kind of thing to do and use it once both bars are charged.
They are all in character which is great becuase they do some interesting and funny things when it comes to Boss mechanics. They also will say things if one of them dies. Depending on the character, they may even skip the Mechanic due to their personality.

I will laugh how Thancred will get annoyed by a boss mechanic and just skip it half way through while Urianger just skips the mechanic all together because he is being his usual self.
Unfortunately unless Alphi can switch between Scholar and Summoner you (I think?) won't be able to go in with him as a healer.
That said Minfillia does a similar thing, you could always try with her. Or troll one of the other three and see their reaction >> << >>
To be fair yes he is a bit of a mix, and he isn't the only one. Thancred still has access to some of his Ninja moves like the movement ability for example, Y'shtola will probably still have access to her heals and Collective Unconscious. Urianger can also use Black Mage's teleport. So looking at it, it seems Alphinaud is more of a Scholar/Summoner hybrid?
His Carbuncle, for example, seems to be playing by old Garuda-Egi rules with its attacks, rather than playing by Fae rules. He also still has access to Miasma, and I even saw him throw out Tri-Disaster.
I suppose its fitting, all things considered, plus with how Trusts work, damage is going to be on the low side, so it makes sense to buff some of their offensive capabilities (similarly, Minfilia seems to have access to a longer duration Trick Attack, plus in-combat Hide). That said, I think it's a shame to have actually given them existing Class/Job names... Given they are indeed playing by slightly different rules, it would have been a nice nod to some of the other Final Fantasy Jobs that almost certainly aren't going to be added to the game, in a similar way to how the Warriors of Darkness did things. Urianger could be an Oracle, for example, Alphinaud a Sage or Envoker. Doesn't work for all of them, of course, Alisaie is very much a Red Mage, Thancred a Gunbreaker, but for the ones who are mechanically different and unique? Would be a nice nod to Jobs we're not likely to get, they're too similar to existing Jobs, but that just makes it perfect to apply the names to the Trusts who are similar to existing Jobs, but not quiet the same.

So alphy is losing his white carbuncle and will have a faerie?
I wonder if he being classified as SCH is the same as the player character. Allegedly becoming a Scholar is very rare because it depends on a crystal to unlock very old knowledge + faerie.
Unless that's only for a gameplay's sake to define him as a healer option.
No, he still uses Diamond carbuncle. The scions and a few other npcs have almost always cheated in what skills they're able to use even if that job for the player can't use said skills.
