Female Hrothgar as a playable race. Show your support!

A custom beast head for females would probably mean hairstyles tied to faces just like the male's probably are.

I don't mind the hair being tied to the face but I do feel that there are not enough face options for males at all. If they are going to lock that stuff in to make sure there isn't some sort of massive horrible clipping/modelling issue, then they really need to offer a wide selection - and a wide selection of added parts. I liked that you could remove the front braid on some hair options but I don't think it went far enough.

They made mention of a wolf face shortly after the Hrothgar were announced but it's nowhere to be found in the benchmark. My guess is that extra faces were planned but scrapped due to time constraints. If so it just kinda makes me wish that again they had held Hrothgar back a patch cycle so they could do more with them, as every time they've been brought up since the Japanese Fanfest it's generally in relation to crunch and how tough it is to make things work for them - with the most telling aspect being that Hrothgar weren't even reveal ready until the day before they were announced.

While you have a good point about the wolf face - they showed it in a blog about a week before the benchmark was release. I guess I'd assumed that it was with the Helion, since I only played around with the Lost to make a snow leopard. (The thick tail is no where near long enough ) Having said that I remember clearly when we were all saying oh, the models for Au Ra aren't finished. They wouldn't possibly tie horns to faces, that would be stupid - and then when HW released there wasn't really any changes other than the generic (non racial) hair being added as an option.

Hrothgar have a lot more potential than viera. Imho, devs should really just created their own race and not give in to fanbase demands on this one.
If I had one vote on this, I'd go for fem Hrothgar, or full race Hrothgar from the beginning.

I'm actually worried what we'd get is a cross between a female miqote and a female roe. A lot of the fan art that has been done of females since the announcement of hrothgar hasn't given them snouts. Certainly SE isn't just going to go off fan art but it's pretty common in MMOs that have beast like races that the females are more human than the males. And that is something I'm not interested in. I want to be a lioness, or a snow leopard, snout, whiskers, and all.

Oh absolutely. I wouldn't want them to go the WoW way and make the "beast tribe" women suddenly almost human-like, or too "cute" like they did with the Worgen - the men looked like proper badass wolves, but then they ultimately created the women to look more "cutesy", with big round eyes, like furry cartoon characters. They didn't fit at all with the style they'd created the males in and it ended up looking very bad. I sincerely hope FFXIV devs would learn from that and avoid that mistake.

Well the devs have confirmed that hrothgar are ronso, and the female ronso from FFX didn't look like humans with token animal features. By confirming this they have set the audience's expectations as to what a female would look like. So I'm pretty sure if we get female hrothgar then they would be suitably bestial.

And yea the female worgen were such a disappointment. The males look like they are part wolf or deadly hound, while the females look like they are part terrier :S

It'd be a little hypocritical if they ever add female hrothgar and not make them every bit as beastly as the male counterpart given that their whole reason for making them was to give players a beastly race. I'd be so mad lol
