Can we have a Male Healer and a Female Tank?

As much as I'd love to see a Male Lala doing it I think the problem is it doesn't really convey the general look of the job as well as WHM/BLM's that Lala's are mostly tied to.

Funny thing is that in lore SCH is the healer job associated with lalas. WHM is more associated with Hyurs/Padjalis. Not every job has an associated race, by which I mean the race that created it, but BLM and SCH do, and they are both lalafell; small world huh, lol.

It already has been. Did you see the teaser screenshots they posted of the Hrothgar and Viera? The Viera is a Paladin. The Hrothgar looks to either be a healer/caster or Weaver.

That's not the same thing. Those are screenshots, not official artwork of the newest Warrior of Light.

As Eloah said, the scholar job is strongly connected to Lalafells. All the Nymian characters we've met so far - tonberry curse aside - are Plainsfolk by their names.

I actually think the male version of the Lv70 WHM gear looks really good. Dependent on your taste in outfits of course, but as someone who likes the game's "robes and tunics" aestheic, it's a really nice coat. (So is Lv70 AST - much nicer than the female version, I think.)

Also I think most of the healer animations look fine on my male Elezen - though that's probably a stereotype in itself, getting the dainty elf to be the token male healer. (Not that it was intentional; he's supposed to be a bard but he just looked so good in all the mage outfits...)

I don't think the faerie is enough to make scholars look 'feminine' though. It doesn't change your character, and I feel like it's not that linked with "fairies as a thing for girls" because the focus is so different. It's not all about your pretty fairy, she's just a glowing thing that hangs around and gives off healing spells.

(A similar game-example that comes to mind - Ocarina of Time. Link isn't seen as 'girly' just because he has a fairy companion. It doesn't have much bearing on him at all.)

I feel like it's different in a fantasy setting where fairies are real, powerful magical beings. They're not a little girl's play-toy here, and don't carry the same connotations within the story.

I understand that in the main number titles the healer is usually a female, but let's not forget that Minwu from FF2 was the first named White Mage in the history of Final Fantasty and he was a male. He was also very important to the story and one of the most powerful characters in the game.

That line right there is why it's misleading. Without actually reading the monster of a first post it's not clear that you mean the artwork.

What "monster" of a first post? It's a bunch of small, one-lined paragraphs, there is a TL;DR that explains it spot-on and it says "promotional material" in the second sentence. This is what Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter do to people's mind and brain I guess...

Whatever, as someone who enjoy the artwork to games very much, I always like to see where the male and the females differ, and this diverse-ness is great to look at.

Maybe you know the French studio "Ankama" (or Ankama Studios) who produce DOFUS and WAKFU. As I love their style, I bought the artbooks and in the DOFUS 2.0 artbook, they showed of course each gender. And I like the ideas they implemented, e.g. giving the females a distinctive feminine look while the male characters had their own invididual style - while both being still equal (e.g. they both have wings which is deemed feminine but still they managed to get it fair for the males, too in this matter):





Every gender there is equal and yet they share the same reasons that make their profession, I just picked the healers as canon to this thread.

This is my Lalalfell Blackmage (right) and the Phantasia'd female version (left). My mom, 52 years, love Lalafell since she saw my Zedek on my computer's desktop and since I provide her cutscenes of the game and images...That's why I phantasia'd for one day..
Displaying that both can be perfectly on their own gender and have their individual look makes me smile - instead of the skirt, we males get pants.

By the way, in real life, as being a slender and small man, I wear for example exclusively women's vintage leather gloves as the male ones do not only look ugly (personal taste) but also do not fit (logical reasoning). They are finer and made of much softer leather, and I won't let my biological gender pidgeonhole me into something I don't want.

I am really for showing all genders and how they "do" in their gear. And not following media-created stereoytypes.

Well the Warrior of Light has always been Derplander, the male adventure from the very first trailer. Did you want them to add a new female WoL?

No, not Derplander. It's the newest addition to his party. Similar to how the Warriors of Darkness mimicked his party, well except for the male BLM/Magus. A new Warrior of Light is introduced to represent the newest jobs introduced.

This artwork is a good example. You'll notice that each character is the same as the one depicted in the reveal artwork. Though I can't place SAM. They look similar to the concept art but with hyuran ears. But they also look like Yoshi-P, odd. I mean, it's not like you can tell that the DRG and BLM are Elezen by their pictures, so why not make him noticeably Elezen. But you can see that the rest are the same.
