I know there's Japanese folklore that says there are rabbits on the moon I encourage people to look for the moon rabbit, it's cuter than the man but 7.0, the infamous moon expansion in which text to speech will be introduced as well as the realistic simulation of life on a natural satellite, seems... kind of bizarrely far off, timeline-wise.

Male viera, at the very least, are already kind of easy-mode since they're basically just another standard human-shaped character that happens to have bunny ears. The lady big cats are where the real difficulty comes in, but I don't believe it'd take all the way until we have to face primal John Madden to get 'em going.

What I meant to say was, that considering what the FFXIV team has done in the past (Bowmage, male miqote, femroes, fem highlanders, 2.0, etcccc) I think it's quite likely that they will be released at 6.0 (now we got confirmation that it wont be during 5.x almost for sure) since the community has been askign for this. A lot. In fact, I believe there has never been such a demand for basically anything in the game.
While it is a possibility that they don't come due to X or Y, I would also be suprised if they did that, considering they wouldn't have said anything if they didn't know that they would be able to try and figure something out, and, judgjing by what we have seen of YoshiP in the past, the fact that he said that they are going to talk about them in 5.x, makes me think that this is a way of kinda hyping them up for players that potentially won't read the letters, go into the forums, etc...
Also, I do have faith that the FFXIV devs can easily come up with a way to implement both male viera and female hrotgar, and I really don't think that after them stating that from now on they'll try to be more transparent with things that are not going to come (Mr happy interview), I think that if they were really not going to ever come, they would have either said a 'no' or at least a 'it's extremely unlikely' when what we got is a 'we will try'

Also, If for X or y male viera and female hrotgar could really not be added as their own, I'm sure that no one would mind if the devs released a male au ra, elezen (or whatever model really) with different heads, and slightly changed animations, and I think that that just won't take that long to do, considering most of that can be already done with mods

This was about the response I expected. I understand their reasoning for not adding the missing genders this time, and its a much better explanation than the lore BS they were spouting at first. Two good take aways from this though is that they are still open to the idea of adding them if they can figure out how to get around the limitations of the game, and that they are seemingly deciding to be more transparent. I can only hope they're being truthful about the transparency thing at least. I have DNC for now and if the missing genders aren't in 6.0 I can simply revisit how I feel about the game then.

But I also don't get the people who are saying "Wow, golly jee, now we can finally put this matter to rest, and all those people on the Male Viera thread will shut up!" Um...... I have some bad news for you. lol

I'm grateful that Yoshi P took the time to respond to our feedback. I sympathize with the devs...coming from a games development background myself, I know all too well the hard work that goes into making any game!

With that being said, it seems like the main reason why the two races shall remain genderlocked for now, is because of the added workload to alter all the gear, which would put the current patch release system at risk. Which is a warranted concern...as Yoshi states, even with the genderlock he's concerned about being able to keep releasing patches at the same rate.

However if the reason certain content such as new races, genders, or whatever is being limited due to being unable to keep up with the patch release schedule...then perhaps it's time to consider outsourcing certain tasks to a third party...who could tackle the additional workload of altering all gear to match the other two genders and also any future races. This would allow the main FF14 team to work solely on new content and not fall behind the release schedule. It would also remove that main problem that's preventing the implementation of the missing genders at this time.

The answer is what i was expecting no confirmations either way but i will take 2 positives out of it they are willing to discuss it amongst themselves about potentially adding the genders which is honestly the best answer i could hope. For as we know it was around 4.1 that the decision to add female Viera instead of female Hrothgar was decided, so the fact they are willing to talk about it pre 5.0 is really good to hear even if its no confirmation just the fact its on the table is enough right now.

The other positive being child like models won't be a playable thing, i am fine with androgynous/feminine looking males but child like was pushing it for me giving the interactions within the game itself and the response given is a very logical one, that said i will say my condolences to those who wanted this body type but due to a very small minority of people you won't be allowed it.

I will say i am disappointed but i understand why there won't be any male viera or female hrothgar in msq for a long while if at all, the male viera one is more aggravating as we are going into their homeland on the 1st and it was set on fire yet nope male viera are hiding in the trees watching you never seen shush, i believe they could've done a small work around by having tribal gear completely covering their bodies so we see them just not the real 'them' so to speak and at most you might get a proportion out of them but that was wishful thinking on my part.

I guess we should all strap ourselves in and brew some coffee, this thread will probably live on till 6.0.

Oh no doubt this thread will continue until male Viera are playable or ffxiv shut down whichever comes 1st :P

I think they already send some work to third parties. But it wouldn't kill them to send third parties some more work if it lightened up their work load.
