So housing has dried up now?

I'm on Excalibur and there hasn't been an open plot in 3 days. Is it possible for open plots to still exist?

It's the same pretty much everywhere - and even if one opens up, you don't stand a chance of getting one unless you stand at the placard and mindlessly click on it for hours on end. New housing wards are sorely needed at this point and it worries me that there's no mention of player housing for 5.0. Other MMO's are capable of providing a house to everybody who desires one, so FFXIV really needs to catch up in that regard.

Ahh so there is a chance of them going up. Yeah low chance but it's a chance even without mindlessly clicking. I'm usually up in the dead hours of the night so if I find one I give it a click and if nothing then move on.

There is still a week of transfers and demolition has resumed. in about 30ish days houses will start to pop up from people not logging in since october, possibly sooner if their house demo got frozen at a couple days right before the freeze. Keep looking and good luck.

Spent the past 7 days trying to claim a house legit against all the people using auto macros and needless to say I wasted my precious time.

Obtaining a house is impossible with the terrible systems in place and lack of actual plots.

I assumed we would get Ishgard housing with the rebuilding of the Holy See. But it hasn't been explicit as far as I know.

Doubt we'd get housing that's gated behind high lvl crafting, did hear rumor though that they may working on different sized apartments for sometime in ShB.

We have housing gated behind MSQ progression via Shiro. Newer players have 3 housing locations. I think some higher tiers for people to transfer into/move from ARR would only do good.

I wouldn't put it past SE to gate something like that to be honest. At least in that regard houses won't be taken up so quickly since it'd only be reserved for players who've completed the restoration or something.

Given the layout of Ishgard I find it somewhat difficult to picture a whole housing ward there however so my hope/theory is that if there will be housing it might actually be instanced. Once the player completes the restoration they will receive their own plot of land. Of course that's probably extremely wishful thinking.
