of course there would be some backslash because male viera wouldn't look like some people want them to, but it wouldn't be near as huge as the backslash they've got now.

It's mostly because if we say they promised, or they can't do something they haven't done since 1.0 (which to be fair was Tanaka's team), then SE might choose to never talk about this controversy until they know they will have the time and resources to work on them. Why bother saying anything if there's a certain group of players who will say "yeah but you promised/set a precedent!"

It's perfectly fine to be disappointed, of course and criticise them for releasing one gender of two races. I just feel saying they promised or can't do something is... selfish?

They did promise it at an interview and I'd like to know what's selfish about it? Is it because we aren't letting Yoshida do whatever he wants? I don't really see that as selfish considering this is not his project and this is not an indie game this is an MMO we pay for monthly

You should be careful with your wordings, some might misunderstand that. If its not his project/game/rights, then he wouldnt be the director and producer. And we as customers, arent above him either. We pay for a sercive, not tell him what to do.

Yep, the best we can do is ask for things and wait to see if he is ok with it or not.

Well I dont really see it as his game, in the end it's SE's game and I don't think he should release content based on what he wants or he dosent want, but on what the community wants, which I feel like he hasn't done with this expansion (no new healer, genderlocked races etc)

It is not that easy.

Doing only as the community wished is bound to end up in a mess. And it is a game. So there is also the money side to take into account.
It is a SE game as you says, not the game of the community. It is for them however, hence why we can suggest things.
