    Pretty much. High tier tanks can probably get away with going an entire dungeon without entering tank stance with the way most DPS play in DF, but that flies out the window the moment you run into an equally high tier DPS. Especially if they're a Bard that lacks Diversion. ;_;

(I've run into a grand total of one tank who was able to keep aggro away from me without ever entering tank stance, and it was a Warrior, by far the easiest tank to pull that off as. And I still had to dump aggro frequently, though most of it also consisted of 'okay gotta kill everything before I rip aggro and this becomes a problem'.)

And even if they were properly geared,u still meet people new to the dungeon who'd need an explanation for a few mechs for the bosses, cuz turbo pulling with a player who just played the instance for the first time is gonna make things longer rather than making it shorter

patience is a virtue after all,a virtue that half the playerbase of this game don't have sadly especially the burger king variety if u know what i mean xD
    AMAZINGLY ENOUGH

Just had a Bardam's Mettle run with a returning Tank and Burger King RDM (and a silent BRD).
The Tank states that they are new to the dungeon, slightly undergeared and they want to take things slowly to get used to tanking again. I take a look at the tanks gear and its a mix of things between 260-270. Nothing out of the ordinary. I say that they can go as fast or as slow as they like. Its no problem to me. The RDM and BRD stay silent.

We proceed pretty well through the first boss up until the mobs before the 2nd boss where the RDM sprints ahead, grabs all of the mobs and brings them back to the tank only for the tank to die in about 5 seconds.
When we wipe the RDM pipes up with "Thought i'd throw you in the deep end and see if you could float. Guess you can't"
The tank then says that they wanted to go slowly in the beginning. The RDM says they didn't see that. Then the RDM has a go at me saying "The SCH isn't putting shields up."
One look at the battle log shows that I put up Adlo on the tank about once every 10 seconds. So this mentor isn't paying attention at all.
The snarky comments continue all the way up to and including the final boss. Where the tank is quite squishy and isn't using all of their cooldowns but they are keeping themselves alive with mine and Eos' help. I get targeted with a mechanic and can't heal for a moment but I still let Eos do her job and we clear it.
The Burger King then says "I helped with healz lol". I look through the battle log, they cast one Vercure.
    One. Single. Vercure.
This "mintuur" had every class to 70 except RDM. They could have helped both myself and the tank out by giving us small pointers on what to do with our classes to make this seem better. But they'd rather just give snarky comments instead of actually assisting.
I added the tank and offered to run Bardam's with them again because people like that don't deserve the time of day. So we queue again...
    ---
The following run, the tank and I got a new BLM and a 70 NIN who was trying to improve on their rotation. This Lvl 70 NIN can have all of my comms.
Explained to the BLM mechanics of the dungeon, helped out the tank and myself with tricks on how to reduce MP usage and work our classes a bit easier and even stuck around after the dungeon to explain how to use Eos functionally and better than what I was doing.
And to top it all off, the run was 4 mins faster than the previous party.

THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO BE IF I EVER BECOME A MENTOR.

To the NIN from Mateus. Thank you. You helped out so much more than you needed to.

To the other burger king, who amazingly is from Gilgamesh, if you weren't so snarky I wouldn't be typing this up. You have the crown for a reason. And its not to make sure to let everyone know you're royalty.
(no offence to all of you Gilgameshians out there. I know you are good people, just lately I've been running into some that give the rest of you a really bad name <3

That RDM may as well be walking around like this

Cuz MAN not only did they not do the simple courtesy of just typing ONE LINE in chat about mechanics, not only did they not even know how to play their job well(cuz by the time an RDM reach Bardam they have both vercure AND verraise yet it seems he used neither), he was actively harassing the tank with that pull and honestly I would've vote kicked him the moment those snarky remarks came in

I became a mentor myself for a couple of reasons but a big one is because I wanted to be nothing like those burger kings and ACTUALLY BE HELPFUL(which funnily enough only 30% or less of those mentors actually help with anything)

Granted not everyone is obligated to help or type in chat but at the same time if they have the energy to be asshats why not spend that same energy to be an actually decent human being

There is so many things wrong with the mentor system and how easy it is to achieve and how it is presented overall

Cuz apparently something as small as a crown icon can boost someone's ego to a ridiculous level, they could've used something as simple as a book icon or heck a scholar/graduate hat icon or whatever just anything but the burger king happy meal crown

The other thing is the absolute lack of punishment for when those """"""mentors"""""" get reported for harassment, griefing or just leaving way too many instances within a single day. It's dumb that the only way one can lose their mentor status is to talk to the smith again and retire from being one.Like why not revoke the mentor status after at least a couple of strikes on said mentor, like give them a cutscene where the smith says how ashamed he is of them before revoking the mentor status from them.

And then there is the type of mentor whom I'd love to call:The Parser beast tribe.

Those worship the primal Parseon who absolutely demands high parsing numbers even on simple content like dungeons where no one gives a chocobo arse how high their numbers are.And those are divided into three:

Tanks who'll never enter tank stance and keep losing aggro because "GRRRR MUH DAMAGE WOULD BE LOWERED"

DPS(ranged, caster and melee) who'll never use their aoe skills or even dots when they have them because "GRRR THEY DONT DAMAGE IS MUCH"

And finally, the green DPS healer who, opposite of the healer who never DPS,only DPS and rarely provide heals to the tank all while demanding said tank to mass pull.

All three share three thing in common:blame everyone but themselves, trashtalk/harass their fellow party members, and leave at the first sight of anything that requires effort or teaching

Those are the perfect foil to the Warriors of Light that the ascians ever created as not only do they ruin countless runs for everyone but causes a number of players to either quit or stop playing certain content.

Think of this as Lahabrea's final bird flipper towards us xD

A decent human being? On the Interwebs?! PERISH THE THOUGHT MY GOOD SIR!
I shudder to think of the number of impressionable sprouts that may have already been turned away from the game or had a bad impression left of them because of these "mintuurs".

Nothing has been said so elequently simple as this.
This actually does explain why I see hoards of mobs in Sirensong, Shisui and Doma die in slower amounts of time than continental drift. Nothing that is an AoE can be used and the entire run is wasted if anyone uses a single one because "MUH DEEPS BRO".

Something I should have mentioned also...
The Tank with the Lvl 18 crafting ring in Shisui took until about halfway through the first boss to turn on Grit. The RDM was taking aggro away with a single Fleche.
With trash mobs, it got so bad to the point where he stopped DPSing for a whole 15-20 secs with a diversion up and it was only then that he lost aggro...
    To the Dragoon. Lol

Whether that "IS" is a typo or not (if it is please don't fix it), this is the best way to represent these people. Especially when anyone with two brain cells who's passed [insert grade in the local schooling system where they teach basic multiplication] should be able to see that hitting three mobs for 80 does MORE than hitting one for 180. /sigh

On another note, I loaded into an in prog Haukke, and the first thing I saw the tank say was "yeah im baked as hell".
The run consisted of nothing much happening. The BLM and I explained the importance of DoTs and Bane to the Summoner, and the tank ran into some walls and got lost in straight corridors, but did a fine job actually tanking. Uneventful run, but sure started with an interesting comment.

It's a typo as I was typing from my phone and accidentally added "I" instead of "A"

I'll probably go back and fix it but to be fair I've seen people speak like this when they type angerly in chat xD

The small number of times I've been told off for using Holy on the trash mobs in St Moccs Hard... Just make me scream:

    HOLY SPAM!!!! <3

When your getting out DPS'd by a WHM on trash, I laugh at your parse.

I did a slew of dungeons to get my MCH relic quest going (because that gun looks awesome) which involves 10 dungeons in a row. There was ONE TIME that another DPS used AoEs and it was another MCH. RDM? Nah. NIN? What's an AoE? DRG? lol no. And even when it was single target I was always, ALWAYS doing the most damage! How in the Hell am I beating a SAM at doing damage in a synced 50 dungeon!? I am almost certain that most of them level boosted. Hell I saw some lalafell DRG's character info and they had NINE JOBS at 60. Not 61, not 59... square on 60. Maybe they quite the game at the end of HW and just came back but considering it was the FIRST TIME they ran the aery, it seems very, very unlikely.

The last dungeon, the vault, was the worst of it though. The tank is doing good and the DPS while not great is doing okay. But then there's a no-DPS healer who is standing there just waiting to heal, and the tank STILL dies from not getting healed because the AST doesn't know there's a stronger heal than benediction and you can cast a spell more than once every 5 seconds! Perhaps the worst part, no, definitely the worst part, is at the last fight. Despite being told, "Run away from the person you're chained to if you get chained", the other DPS RAN AFTER ME as I was trying to run away from them! Thank goodness I had some max potions and my self-heal was off cooldown because Lord knows I would have never gotten a heal from the healer otherwise.

I actually saw the healer cast a combustion, once. I like to imagine that he was freaking out IRL. "Oh my God what is wrong with me I actually used a damage spell! Why do I even have this on my hotbar!?"

I use slaying accessories myself when leveling, but I also keep them up to date (i270 plus vit5 melds for 60-69), and I\\'m pretty anal about keeping my left side fully updated with at-level hq or dungeon gear.

I'm one of THOSE tanks. My pull philosophy is thus, "Wall to wall, or not at all", and "Big D*** no Grit". I start in tank stance, tagging with Unleash if it procs from unmend, or otherwise Abyssal, and then once I stop it's: "TBN, drop grit, throw down salted earth, AoE"
