Dwarves seems to have replaced the Kobold as a underground beastribe that specializes in metallurgy. I wonder if Mt. Gulg is the First's version of Mt. O'Ghomoro. I always thought that their primal would be their version of Titan assuming they even have one and the recent revelation kinda adds to it.

Doesn't seem like they do.

I'm guessing that Innocence is either going to be the level 77-ish primal or may be the 5.0 final boss with only one ex primal fight for Titania in 5.0, if the dwarves had a primal we'd probably have heard about it by now I think. Unless it ties into whatever the 5.X patch primals are going to be.

I get that Hrothgar as Gunbreaker Origin seems weird, but I guess there's an obvious explanation. They are (or some of them, at least) lion-like.

Where did the Gunblade get its prominence from? Final Fantasy VIII. You know, the one with a Lion GF, Squall Leonhart and the 'Maybe I'm a Lion' Track.

Final Fantasy XIV loves referencing older titles, after all.

If Dwarves have a primal (honestly I'm not betting on it either though), then it could be Marilith since they're at Gulg.

And it may make more sense when we actually start interacting with them. All we really have to go by right now is their look but they could be more advanced than they seem. The fact that they're called ronso in the First rather than the Source as well may be an indication that we shouldn't assume too much based on FF X either.

Plus starting gear hasn't been culturally significant to any other race so far, I'm not sure we can consider it to be the norm among Hrothgar fashion.

The Hrothgar have the potential to be very interesting. If they're in Ilsabard, then they are most likely in a country that was annexed by Garlemald back in the founding days of the Empire. And yet it seems a good chunk of their original governing style is still intact as is their culture. They also seem to have a pretty high tech level if they're the ones who came up with the gunbreaker job and they aren't a beast tribe. I wonder if the Hrothgar and their nation is one of the examples of when the Garleans annexed a country and then it turned out that not a lot really changed because of that. It would be interesting to see at least one example of that in the game with a player race.

Given the other discussions in the Lore forum on what distinguishes a beast tribe from the "civilized" races, I'd wager that Hrothgar technology helped set them apart. If they were advanced enough to develop gunblades separately from Garlemald, they might be advanced enough to win a distinction from the "savages" of the beast tribes.

Doma also kept their king and culture in tact after their first annexation into Garlean territory, its only after the rebellion that he was deposed and replaced with a viceroy.

Now that we've got information on the Hrothgar (finally), we can get a clearer picture of their people. Like the Viera they're matriarchal, and have two clans - the Helions and the Lost (no doggo variety, sorry folks). The Helions are named as such because they revolve around their matriarch and have warmer fur colors, while the Lost live as itinerants and have cooler colors. They hail from Ilsabard and are the developers of the Gunbreaker Job, which was originally brought about to protect the Queen Gunnhildr. While Eorzeans were hostile to them at first they now have amiable relations after learning their tongue.

Given their origin, it sounds like the Hrothgar may have been among the peoples who drove the Garleans to northern Ilsabard and the Lost may be among those who continued raids against them up until the development of magitek let them conquer the continent. Despite their savage appearance the Hrothgar have to have some level of technological advancement if they developed the gunblade, and their ancient queen being named Gunnhildr (Gun... heh) lends further credence to them using a Norse naming theme - the Helions, at least.

The Eden raid is going to involve restoring the empty lands beyond Norvrandt's borders, where the Flood of Light was stopped by Minfilia / the Word of the Mother. Yep, just bleak emptiness out there!

Titania we already knew about. Innocence, on the other hand, appears to be what Kuribu was modeled after. With so high a position in the Sin Eaters, I still can't help but wonder if there's some connection between the two... did the Amdapori somehow contact her? If so, what is Innocence, and the Sin Eaters in general? I'm very curious.

As others have mentioned, the new zones are apparent counterparts to areas on the Source. I'm interested to see how the cultures of the two areas have diverged! The Dwarves in particular...
