Personally, i'm pretty disappointed that they chose to not do mViera and fHrothgar but there is still a lot of awesome stuff happening in the new expac, I really don't want to miss out on it so I wouldn't cancel my sub or not pre-order ShB. I'd be way happier if there was an announcement by Mr. Yoshida confirming they will come soon™ though.

Just popping in because I just thought of a compromise I'd be fine with.
What if, for male Viera bodies, they simply reused the male Au Ra model, albeit without the scales and scaled to an appropriate height, but no other alterations; and then plopped unique heads on top?
This would do multiple things:
a) It would provide a slim yet strong build that the majority seems to be okay with, while keeping it somewhat unique
b) Gives us access to the truly unique feature of the Viera, the (most likely customizable) ears
c) Doesn't increase SE's workload by much, since any unique alterations would already be made for the Au Ra; they'd just have to scale it accordingly (which might even be automatable?)
They could do something similar for female Hroths, simply reuse the female Roegadyn model scaled to height and adding a fur texture, then put the unique heads on top.
Now, while this wouldn't be ideal, if ressources and workflow are truly the issue, I'd still be fine with this over getting no mViera/fHrothgar.
Of course they'd still have to put in the initial work for modeling the heads and making the animations, but adjusting existing and future gearsets would be far less grueling and ressource intensive.
Just something to think about.
Meanwhile there is some new info on promotion site: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/shadowbringers/system/
Both races do have their counterparts in lore at least so assuming that Hrothgars do not have females at all is not a thing anymore.
mentally prepare myself to see a Hrothgar job master xD
We also have confirmation Viera society is Matriarchal, for any this tidbit is of relevance and importance.
Mm. I dislike how they made the femHroth lore basically the same as they usually do when trying to explain a genderlock - few in number, rarely seen by others. Despite the fact this didn't stop them from adding in male Miqo'te in the past. Especially given they're based on animal races (some of them at least) where the females are the more dominant and common ones.

I really hope SE hear us.
A race where females are 'staggeringly rare' is even more ridiculous than the reverse. How exactly are they keeping their population stable? Assuming that 'rare' in this case is the same as for male Viera (meaning 1 in 10) wouldn't they either have to produce large litters of children, or have every woman spend most of her adult life pregnant just to maintain population numbers without any growth?

so we have 1 1/2 matriarchal races, a sub race that inherently does not like hindrance in their constant travels, race where both genders have been seen, its interesting that they hail from Islbard yet i have to question how no Ala Mhigan not say so much as a whisper of them giving their proximity, so why does it feel like big burly man must protect women and force them to stay near home as i'm sure female Hrothgar could easily rip apart most other races if she wanted to (I'm not calling the devs anything this is just how their lore + decision to only have playable males comes across to me)
Guy butt is best butt <3
Still here to express my support for this.

Im sure women are more than capable of handling themselves clearly cant be a queen of a 80% male population and be a dainty push overso we have 1 1/2 matriarchal races, a sub race that inherently does not like hindrance in their constant travels, race where both genders have been seen, its interesting that they hail from Islbard yet i have to question how no Ala Mhigan not say so much as a whisper of them giving their proximity, so why does it feel like big burly man must protect women and force them to stay near home as i'm sure female Hrothgar could easily rip apart most other races if she wanted to (I'm not calling the devs anything this is just how their lore + decision to only have playable males comes across to me)
does seem like Males are just meats shields they can just toss aside while females need to be safe just to keep the race going males might even fear them.
Male viera seem more protective of the woods than the females themselves.
also Helions as a clan name HE LIONS just some pun the lost is way cooler.
