Theory for becoming a Warrior of Darkness

In the keynote we were told that in the first area we will visit there is a legend that one day a Warrior of Darkness will come and save them from the encroaching light.... I suspect that´s where the whole warrior of darkness thing will come from as news and rumors of a champion from a faraway place spread in our wake.

That said, warriors of light are, near as I can tell, heroes that rise up to fight some evil or avert a catastrophe, usually at the behest of Hydaelin. They may or may not have light crystals, since others we know such as Ysayle have crystals but arent warriors of light; and the other two warriors of light we know of, Ramza and Tenzen, may or may not have had crystals. Over the ages these heroes invariably rose to prominence in the eyes of the people who started calling them Warriors of Light. At least thats what I can gather, maybe the Eorzea encyclopedias offer more insight on how the term came to be used.

I won't be terribly surprised if that prophecy only exists because of something Enigma pulled when he moved the Crystal Tower over. He apparently has foresight, if only thanks to that crystal egg we saw in the cinematic, so it seems like he'd want to plant as many seeds as possible for us.

So I don't know if the term "Warrior of Light" (and correspondingly "Warrior of Darkness") will be something other mortals call us, or if it has actual cosmic significance. Or both, and the civilians are somehow subconsciously responding to the cosmic titles by adopting it and assuming they came up with it themselves.

Well, Hydealyn herself calls us the Warrior of Light at the end of ARR. It might not mean much though. It can in fact also be that the cosmic entities copy the terms mortals give to things, for the purpose of communication with mortals.

Tenzen did have a crystal. It is currently located in the Reisen temple, and is repsonsible for further empowering the nearby auspices.

You guys should play some SMT and really get a feel for Order and Chaos. Kinda what they are going for here with this Flood of Light and why balanced forces are the best outcome.

SMT is philosophical Order and Chaos. XIV deals with metaphysical Order and Chaos derived from greek ideologies.

A big difference is metaphysical Order creates many things with individual distinctions following underlying patterns or rules (eg. the behavior of elements) where philosophical Order reduces things into components of one entity.

Metaphysical Order creating a bunch of distinct entities can create philosophical chaos, while metaphysical Chaos reduces things into nothing creating the extreme of philosophical order. They're paradoxical waypoints to try to navigate, so it's best not to get those wires crossed.

While on misconceptions and crossing wires, Dark Knight isn't using Capital D Darkness. The darkness within is a practice of channeling emotional state to fuel manipulation of aether, more akin to Warrior's Inner Beast than anything else. According to Koji, Light and Darkness isn't even aether, but something else entirely.

To be honest i really hope our char just "snapped" and goes wod in super saiyan style storywise, considering all the buildup we've seen so far kind of goes that way...
- our friend "lost" one by one
- people rely our wol waaay too much now (i know we meant well but stil storywise the wol is just your char right? So technicaly one person. Cant imagine all the stress and preasure building inside all this time)
- we are not exactly super op now, latest fight with "zenos" seems to show that way, and sadu dotharl fight... she literally just laugh on our wol

I doubt it going that way but i love to see the "enter the darkness" scene done in goku first ssj style, i would grin like an idiot if every npc just went "wtf" when it happen lol

Well we already see how all of this affect the WoL during the Dark Knight questline and even if we just want to say "fuck off i'm out this shit" we remain quite good in the end, something our current "mentor" isn't really pleased but hey in this case we are a dark knight, not a blood knight like Zenos. But to be honest i have no idea which kind of WoD we will be: one who wield darkness and save puppy or one who wield darkness, save the puppy and then burn a village down (we don't hurt puppy, we are not monster).

storywise: we probably just welcome the power of darkness and business as usual, with a bit of reverse role with enemy being "light" and stuff.

So hey, people been talking about what Light and Darkness are supposed to mean and all that, I got theories on that too!

So Light and Darkness being Order and Chaos is a thing a lot of works like to have it as, SMT being the main one people are using as an example. I wouldn't say FF is too different in that regard, but I do have an example of something slightly different. In the first two Dissidia games you do have Chaos being essentially a rep for Darkness, and for Light you have Cosmos. However Cosmos is called the God of Harmony, not Order. This distinction I believe could also fit Hydaelyn.

The Flood of Light is bringing and Absolute Order to the First. Nothing changes, not grows, nothing dies. Nothing lives at all. Its peace, yes, but a peace that means nothing. Hydaelyn doesn't want this though, she wants life to still thrive. And our actions with the Scions have in many ways been attempts to bring the various races together in peace, or in Harmony with each other. In that there is also peace but there can still be change, life, all that stuff. The Flood of Light is bad but Hydaelyn's usage of Light can still be used for good.

Darkness is still Chaos in both situations, but Chaos itself is not always bad. Chaos causes Change, and change is needed for life to flourish. Stagnation leads to ruin, like how the Allagans eventually fell. As a Warrior of Darkness we will be causing quite a bit of Chaos in challenging the Sin Eaters, but that change will allow the First to once more flourish with life. As some others in this thread have also pointed out we have caused quite a bit of Chaos on the Source as well, with our actions in Ishgard tying nicely into my original post about how we were unintentionally acting as Warriors of Darkness during the fight with Thordan.

So yeah, if we wanted to not use elements for it it would be Warriors of Harmony and Change basically. Also I wasn't expecting this thread to get replies a couple weeks after it started so sorry for getting back in late.

As far as gameplay goes no, I'm not expecting major changes as far as group content goes. Maybe in solo duties, but not for groups. Also don't expect our character to just "snap" but then, the trailer Derplander pretty much did go SSJ dark version at the end.

Interestingly, Rhamu refers to us being aligned with Harmony all the way back in the 2.x series. Having Light be Harmony works very, very well in FFXIV.
